Ok, so what date did you actually send your application to USCIS? This is your I-751 date that needs to be put on the list.

The "date of receipt" (aka NOA1 date) will be on your NOA1 letter.

What is the expiration date on your Green Card? I know you said you sent it back so you don't have it but do you remember? You said your visa's expiration day was April 19, 2013. Do you mean the expiration date on your GC? It seems that you received a 2-year GC and you have to remove conditions.

Filing I-90 will not automatically get you a 10-year GC if you received a 2-year one. It doesn't matter that you believe that you should have gotten a 10-year one, you still have to ROC. What did you state as reason for application? They accepted your I-90 but they probably think that you lost the card and need a new one. So you most likely lost a I-90 filing fee and still have to ROC.

my expiration day is April 19 2013 , i called uscis last year and explained my situation and a supervisor suggested that i should file i90 and send a copy of my green card but choose reason number D , uscis mistake , i've seen some cases like that here and that what motivated me but i waited for long bcz i was scared to send my green card .

the uscis asked me for the original green card on march 20 and i sent it to them , today they gave me a fingerprint and biometric appointment , i did file the i751 before the expiration day of my visa just to be safe , i kept calling them for months and explaining the situation but they didn't know what to tell me , i'm just so confused about the fingerprint appointment is that mean they will correct my status and give me 10 yrs or it doesn't mean anything :S i went today the ups to track the money order but they said i cant track it before 60 days of buying it

Carry a passport at all times? LOL...sounds a little extreme to me. I dont think USCIS is that strict, it isn't like he is gonna get pulled over by border patrol for no reason and asked for documentation.

That's what he told us, because if caught "out of status", it can end up getting pretty nasty, because more often than not, they will punish first and ask questions later. It's not just border patrol that can cause issues. Say you get pulled over for whatever reason. They take your ID, find out that you aren't a US citizen, ask to see green card... OH LOOK. You're showing them a green card that is technically expired. Can you prove right there, other than saying it, that you are in the country legally? Nope. And I can guarantee that they aren't going to simply take your word for it, as much as we'd all love for it to be like that. In my opinion, It's NOT a hassle to carry the passport with you, even if just for the sake of knowing that you can 100% prove your status NO MATTER WHAT situation may arise, and even if it never happens... well, you still know. It is always better to be safe than sorry, and given that it was a SUPERVISOR that told us this? Yeah. I think we'll be listening to him. But you go ahead and do what you want if you think you'll be okay.

I think you should go to your biometrics appointment and also make an Infopass appointment and explain your situation there. If they approve your I-90 and give you a 10-year GC, they will probably just close your ROC case (you will still lose your filing fee for it though), but they might not and that can cause a confusion since you basically have two different cases pending. Don't call them, make an appointment on their website (here's the link: http://infopass.uscis.gov/) and go talk to them in person. Good luck!

I agree that carrying your passport with I-551 stamp after your GC expires is a good idea since it basically serves as a GC (it's the law that LPR's carry GC at all times). But you don't have to answer a question about your immigration status if pulled over by the local police. They are not authorized by law to investigate or arrest people for their immigration status, and have no right to ask questions about it (unless you are in Arizona and a couple other states I think).

Congrats! You should be receiving your biometrics appointment letter in the next couple of weeks. Most people get 2-3 weeks' notice between the letter and the appointment date. You are not able to track your petition online yet. Your actual case number (which is to be used for online tracking) will be on your biometrics letter. I know there is a receipt number on the NOA1 but that's not it Wait until your bio letter arrives. Though the actual online status will just say "Initial Review" for months and months and a lot of people have gotten approval letters or RFEs without the online status ever changing from Initial Review, so I wouldn't put too much weight on it

Re tracking case online: please read my response above.

The case number is not on the NOA1 but rather on the bio letter. There is a receipt number on the NOA1, but it's not the one to be used on the online system. You can try it and it will give you an error message. The actual case number is on the bio appointment letter and this is the one that is used for online tracking. The above is also clearly stated on the NOA1 letter.

If you look at the timestamps on our messages you will see that we both posted at the same time so I couldn't have seen your message when I posted mine. There was the same receipt number on both NOA1 and biometrics letter for AOS so I thought it was the same for ROC, my bad.

Christi85, thank you for the info! I was wondering why i could't track my case status online.! It shows ;"Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283." every time.

Missicy, i assumed the same thing about the receipt number on NOA 1 and the Biometrics for AOS.
