In 2012, I'm about $5k under. Because of my job, I'm allowed to get Unemployment. If I combined my unemployment with my work wages, I will be over the requirement.

However, with the pay stubs I have now, I am about $6k over requirement. I would like to not use a sponsor if I don't have to. :help:

You may be fine with the embassy, but every embassy is different, so it's hard to determine. My suggestion still stands: bring a joint sponsor's form and documents to the interview just in case.

Well I've only lived in Canada except 3 months in California on my school internship.

I'll bring a copy of his extension.

I think I'll call next week to see if I have a case complete.

Thank you so much.

Now I wish I had just filed an extension. :bonk:

So NVC counts the 20 business days from the date you sent it not when it arrives?

That's what the operator just told me. Interesting.

thanks Saylin. I could very well need something more I am in the US now I met my Portuguese husband while we were both working in Bermuda. I moved back to the States for a job and obviously we had NO idea our NOA2 would take 8 months. All of the documents were sent directly to me and were in Portuguese which I don't know or speak. So I really have no idea if something is not what they are looking for. My husband is from a tiny village so getting documents doesn't take a week I need to request them then find someone who is visiting Boston to bring them to me. Going to call tonight hoping for some answers.

If it takes over 2 weeks send a second with tips and tricks from one of Saylin's links. We got an email saying all future info would come to me the agent then got the IV bill within hours.

That's what the operator just told me. Interesting.

I've always been told 20 days from when it arrives in their building, which seems to make more sense to me. Maybe the operator just misspoke or maybe they've told me wrong in the past?!

I ask her twice for clarification. And that's what she said. But I do too think she misspoke.

If we already mailed in the AOS, but received a checklist and are going to mail in the forms again and it will probably not get mailed out before the 15th of April, should the joint sponsor send in the 2012 tax return even though it was not asked for (he only had to give 2011). Also for me, since I was not required to file taxes in 2012 because of my income, should I also write an explanation of 2012, even though the NVC rep told me to only write it for 2011?

Are you sure it's not the false checklist? When did you mail in the first AOS package?

Are you sure it's not the false checklist? When did you mail in the first AOS package?

I mailed the package in on March 18th, and got an email checklist from NVC on April 1st. They told me that I didn't have an explanation of why I didn't file taxes for 2011- I was a full time student and unemployed- but for 2012 I was a full time student and had a part-time job, so I didn't meet the income requirement to file.

For my joint sponsor, all the checklist asked for was his proof of citizenship because we forgot to send that in (d'oh! lol) So he will be filing the tax return before the 15th, but I don't know if he will have it in hand before I mail the package out again. And NVC didn't ask for his 2012 either. I don't want to send them extra stuff they dont need, but I also dont want to receive another RFE/checklist :( I'm so confused.

Give them what they ask for but I would ask your joint sponsor to get you a copy of their 2012 tax transcript asap so that the beneficiary has that available for the interview.

Yeah I'm sure he has enough time to get it in by the time of the interview. Just not for the AOS package that I'm going to mail out soon on Monday.

Also, for my explanation of why I didn't file taxes, should I mention about 2012, or just 2011?

That's what the operator just told me. Interesting.

That wouldn't make any sense though as some people's packages can take a week or two to arrive, or it can be overnighted. I highly doubt NVC reviews packages from remote places before they review those sent from within the US. The operator definitely misspoke. Like, what if it took 20 business days just for the package to arrive at NVC. That means it would be reviewed right then and there headbonk.gif
