Court marriage: US or Nigeria

Gooday folks,

Please which one is preferrable for filling CR1 visa for my spouse.He did his court marriage in the US and his currently in his home country and want to file. can he use the US court marriage cert or he should plan of doing court marriage in his home country and use it for filling.

Wat can you advise?Thanks

US marriage is fine, Also it could show good faith by leaving and not having an overstay. Maybe a Nigeria poster will have other insight.

Once you are married in one country you are married everywhere. You can actually run into issues if you marry twice. That is why places like vagas offer renewal of vows not second marraiges. It has to do with the way bigomy laws are worded, being married twice can be an issue even if it is to the same person.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Married is married. He doesn't need to be married in both countries to be married.

Also it's the USC who files the I-130 petition. After that has been approved by the USCIS, then the beneficiary completes the immigrant visa application. The resulting visa is a CR1 or IR1 visa.
