Family fights back when 3 gunmen storm their home; one intruder shot.

http://www.khou.com/news/local/21-year-old-protects-family-kills-suspect-during-home-invasion-in-NW-Harris-County-192475271.html

HOUSTON –A 21-year-old man sprang into action to protect his family Thursday night when three suspects barged into their northwest Harris County home.

The young man was home with his mother and father in the 3900 block of Brook Garden when the armed men forced their way into the house around 8 p.m., according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies.

The family was in the middle of baking a cake, when there was a knock at the door.

“I see a young boy and I think it is a friend of my son so I open it a little bit,” the father explained. “These guys push and out comes two more, they push me on the ground.”

After the father was down, the suspects went after the mother. That is when the son ran and got his dad’s gun. He opened fire and hit one of the suspects, who died in the back bedroom. The other two suspects fled the scene.

“I just hear a couple of times; boom, boom, boom. One young life is lost,” the dad said.

Deputies responding to the call spotted a vehicle carrying two men who matched the suspects’ descriptions and pulled it over. The men were taken into custody for questioning.

Deputies said they do not know why the suspects targeted this home.

“At this point, we don’t know what the motive is behind this home invasion, but they did force entry into the residence,” said Sgt. Greg Pinkins, Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Neighbors said the son was just doing what he had to do.

“People can’t go breaking into people’s homes and not expect some sort of consequence," said Harry Moulder.

No charges were expected to be filed against the homeowner’s son.

You could always have your lying president start cleaning the streets by prosecuting the people who walk up to a counter and effectively sign a confession that they are illegally buying a gun. Until then libs are welcome to stf up and eat what they planted.

Data from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)found in 2010, of 6 million Americans who applied to buy a gun, less than 2 percent -- or 76,000 -- were denied. Of those, the ATF referred 4,732 cases for prosecution. Of them, just 44 were prosecuted, and only 13 were punished for lying or buying a gun illegally.

"If the prosecution of people lying on forms is really a priority for the president, then all he has to do is say, 'I want my federal law enforcement officials to prosecute these kinds of cases,'" former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales told Fox News. "Obviously there is a different level of priority given to these type of crimes in this administration compared with other administrations."

Justice Department sources argue the attorney general has finite resources. DOJ prefers to prosecute prohibited persons who actually obtain guns illegally, who've gotten around the background check system, rather than just those who just lie on the form, which is also a crime.

A source also said so-called "lie and try" cases have little jury appeal. They are essentially about lying on a form where the person was ultimately denied the ability to purchase the gun. Juries, in these cases, have a tendency to question whether any harm was done, because the individual did not get the gun.

Prosecutions for making a false statement when buying a gun are down 29 percent from five years ago, while prosecutions for illegal possession are down 14 percent, according to federal data. Penalties are also light. Data compiled by the U.S. attorney's office shows a third of those charged with gun crimes serve no jail at all, and those who do typically only serve one to four years of a possible 10-year sentence for lying or illegally possessing a firearm.

Actually, what needs to be done here is the other two suspects should be prosecuted for the death of the third (manslaughter at least, maybe murder). The suspects are at fault for the death. They should be held responsible./quote]

You could pass a law requiring million dollar liability insurance before they go on their crime spree...Just to cover the prison cost.

completely hilarious that this is going to be your new talking point. yes, let's prosecute every person that lies on a gun app. sounds effective and totally achievable.

####### for tat, dawg. for every criminal that is shot and killed in the home - i wonder what the statistic is for guns related deaths for inhabitants of the home? for example, last week our local prosecutor decided not to press charges against the father who shot and killed his son last year, by accident. 17-year-old Rhett Goldizen

Val the numbers are dramatically on the side of those killed by gun violence who were not shot breaking and entering. I am afraid that mentioning that causes loss of stiffy over articles such as the OP where the right person or persons get shot.

Gun nuts only care when guns are used for the right reasons. When they are used for the wrong reasons, they turn a blind eye. It's very convenient.

We should get up a scholarship fund for that kid .. great job If only that gun had been unloaded and locked in a safe, with a biometric trigger lock
