I'm going to the embassy to get my certificate that shows I am single. But I read online that since I haven't met my fiance in person that I need to have documented evidence that we have talked.

So far I got about 18 pages of Skype messages (and another messenger) including screenshots of us on cam. I also have art and letters we wrote each other. And our facebook pages/info from now and a year ago. As for chat messages on FB I have little sections from various messages since Nov 2011 (about 40 pages worth). Do you think that would be enough? Because if they needed it all printed I'd need about 100,000 pages lol. ^_^

Would also having her with me at the appointment help? Lastly what kind of will they ask me? Or is just basic stuff like having me sign a paper that says I haven't been married (I haven't)? Some say better to have to much evidence then not enough. THanks for any answers! :)

I'm not sure either what type of visa you're talking about...K1? Visitor? The evidence you need to bring depends on what you're applying for. And in the case of a fiance visa, you need to have met in person within the last 2 years (unless it goes against your culture/religion or you can prove that meeting would would result in extreme hardship to you.) Please give us more info so we can help =)

Unless your religion forbids you from meeting her in person until your wedding, you will not be successful in getting together - One of the primary rules that is established at USCIS is that you have met "in person" within the last 2 years. Please make sure you get the rules straight so you won't be disappointed.

Huh?

What country are you talking about as this is the Philippine forum.

Going to embassy to get certificate, are you the USC? Or are you talking going to NSO to get a CENOMAR? What visa are you going for?

OP is planning to marry in the Philippines and then apply for his wife's visa.

Philippine Law requires non-Filipino citizens to obtain a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry if they wish to marry in the Philippines. U.S. Consular Officers cannot make any official certification about the status or eligibility to marry of persons residing in the United States who propose to be married abroad, or about the laws of the United States or of any of the fifty States or Territories about eligibility for marriage or the solemnization of a marriage. Instead, the U.S. Embassy provides an Affidavit In Lieu of Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry. The affidavit is the only document the U.S. Embassy is able to provide. If the local registrar refuses to accept the affidavit, there is nothing that the U.S. Embassy in Manila can do. It is the applicant’s responsibility to verify directly with the local registrar their requirements.

In late 2011, the U.S. Embassy learned that the following local registrars had refused to accept the Affidavit In Lieu of Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry as a viable alternative to the Philippine document: Makati City, Quezon City, Davao City.

Please note that all fees paid for this notary service are non-refundable. Because U.S. Consular Officers are not in a position to respond with authority to questions involving interpretation of specific Philippine laws, such questions may best be addressed by an Attorney licensed to practice law in the Philippines. American diplomatic and consular officers do not have legal authority to perform marriages.

Oh sorry guess that info would help. We are applying for a spousal visa (shes filipino, I am american). I am going to marry her in a month. But before we can marry the embassy site for the philippines says I need to get a "Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity" from them. It says if you haven't met previously you need to provide proof you have at least talked before through either chat records, phone bills...etc.

My question was pertaining to how much information I need to show them if we haven't met? I have lots of chat logs, skype logs and stuff like that. Do you know how much is required to prove you have been talking?

Six. Six is the number, and the number shall be six. Not seven, or five, lest you add one more, making the number six. Eight, is right out.

Congratulations! Enjoy!

Not sure if it's also needed for the spousal visa procedure, but save the boarding passes, hotel receipts, other documentary evidence (i.e. "non-emotional" evidence) during your stay here as proof of your bona fide relationship. When we applied for our fiance visa, we had to scurry and find said evidence.

Good luck! :)

I am (usually) the beneficiary.
