Visitor Get Married to US Citizen?

I have read some posts on here relating to US Citizen marrying a person who is on a tourist visa here...so how does that work, what is the process, are they allowed to stay here if they do get married legitimately? Immigration paperwork has to be filled out I'm sure, and in meantime, does the visitor have to go back to their country or can they stay?

Thanks for any input.

Cheers.

A person can get married on a visitor visa, there is nothing special to do. A visitor cannot use that visitor visa to immigrate, though. Adjustment is allowed from a visitor visa in some cases, but purposely using that visa to try to immigirate is illegal.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Hi, I came to the United States on a Tourist Visa entry, so basically, I was granted a 10 yrs. multiple entry granting I was only allowed to stay within the span of six months per visit. I got married to my husband and we did the same paperwork applications (ex: the fiance visa) for me to become a conditional permanent resident. The IO was not skeptical towards us when we had our interview coz Ive known my husband for 2 yrs and he had been to the Philippines, so we had pictures together and some other itinerary documents which served as a proof that we were really a genuine couple.

although frowned around here, she can actually file an aos.. now whether it gets approved or not, your best guess is as good as mine.. "they" have to prove to uscis that it wasn't a "marriage for convenience" type.. and yes, she can stay..

The TOS specifically forbids condoning and advising illegal activity.

Hey look at my timeline and profile. My wife was justly here on a visitor visa. And I truly didn't know her. She really was on a trip. We really did meet as strangers. And everything was definitely legal.

VisaVee2k13, everything depends on where you are right now. Are you asking because you are in the US, and you have suddenly decided to get married to a USC and stay (which is perfectly legal and we can advise you), or are you outside the US now, in which case entering on a tourist visa intending to immigrate is most definitely fraud and any advise would be against the TOS of this site?

Basically, where are you right now? Limit it to country, I don't need to know if you are in the bathroom. no0pb.gif
