  1. 1. The federal takeover will start in Chicagoland. Surprised?

    • Not surprised. It makes perfect sense.
    • Yes. I did not think the Obamatrons would be that blatant!
    • Federal takeover? What? Who are you? Where am I? What year is this?

Federal troops will pour in, requested by the hapless leadership of Chicagoland. A model that we first saw Somalia and Haiti is now going to repeat itself in the Homeland.

(Reuters) - Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson and relatives of victims of fatal shootings in Chicago urged President Barack Obama on Saturday to come back to his hometown and address the gun violence plaguing the city.

...

"When the president shows up, it shows ultimate national seriousness," said Jackson, a Chicago resident. He also called for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help patrol the streets of Chicago.

I don't think the president is needed. They need to start at the home and work from there. Get the kids off the street and back in school, work on the teachers, open up more jobs, etc.

Well, they could invest more money into the more downtrodden areas, I've been through Chicago when I was in Boot Camp back in the 90's. I remember it looking like it used to be a promising place, kind of like St. Louis looked back in the hey day. Once you clean up the streets, money will come. People will want to shop and visit those districts if it's clean and safe. You don't need more guns there, what you need is the community to come together and work as a team/family to take it back and make it safe for all people.

My parents tell me Detroit was a great place in the 1950s. Now it looks like Berlin circa 1946.

shopping and tourism are service type jobs for the local population.

wouldn't the local population benefit more from jobs producing products? something that really pays a wage?

I can attest to the latter half of that statement. My wife being from Windsor, I have driven through Detroit a few times in the last couple years. Hope I never have to again.

At this point I believe anything that produces revenue legally is a start. They have the malls and shops, but since the slump, it's gone downhill dramatically.

Same thing, once you clean the place up, business will follow.

My mom's family all left Detroit, once they discovered California. First her sisters married a couple sailors returning from WWII and ended up on the west coast, and eventually her mother, and herself, escaped a particularly severe cold spell around Easter when the postcards from her sisters showed what Christmas and New Year's look like in SoCal. Finally, most of her cousins ended up here as well. There was no love lost for Detroit, and walking backwards through the snow to get to school in the morning.

Yeah I left there when I was 18. I remember the bumper stickers from the mid 80s when I was still living there, "Last one out of Michigan, turn out the lights." Michigan itself is a pretty nice place. If you could just somehow sell that south eastern part to Ohio.

I read somwhere once that Michigan and Ohio actually fought some brief border war back in the 1800s over some stupid strip of land.
