The thing missing from the debate so far is anger — anger that we live in a society where something like the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre can happen and our main concern is not offending the NRA’s sensibilities.

That’s obscene. Here, then, is my “madder-than-hell-and-I’m-not-going-to-take-it-anymore” program for ending gun violence in America:

• Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. It offers an absolute right to gun ownership, but it puts it in the context of the need for a “well-regulated militia.” We don’t make our militia bring their own guns to battles. And surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.

• Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me.

• Then I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control.

The idea of killing people to take their guns to "prevent killing" makes you giggle like a schoolgirl

I love liberal logic

No, it is the whole philosophy behind the Bush Doctrine and protecting the American way of life with preemptive actions: Kill them before they kill you.

 It is often humorous watching as people get 'hoisted on their own petard'!

killing americans for exercising their rights. i think you're misinterpreting the spirit and the letter of the doctrine.

we're talking guns not abortion here. there are several VJ members that exercise their second amendment rights and have not killed anyone. -- yet

That seems to fit the profile of most of these shooters, doesn't it -- normal people that suddenly go homicidal with the weapons they already have access to. Abortion should be mandatory for any NRA member -- kill them before they breed!

There have been hundreds of gun deaths in the US just over the last couple of weeks. And there will be hundreds more over the next couple of weeks.

Heck, even Vermont - what some want to call the safest state in the Union, a state with a tiny population - has had three gun deaths since the massacre at Sandy Hook.

Every year, the gun death toll is 10 times the death toll of 9/11. Americans with guns kill more Americans than any foreign terrorist ever did or ever will.

When a PAC that's as well funded as the NRA steps up and carries the ball (instead of this columnist)

I'm sure folk will pay attention.

Otherwise, forget about it ..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

no. unless you consider mentally disturbed people normal.

how many babies have wound up in a trash can in the last couple weeks? how many will be disposed of in a year? and how do those numbers compare to deaths caused by foreign terrorist?
