Under Philippine Tax law, non-resident citizens only have to file a tax return in the Philippines if they have income earned in the Philippines or from Philippine sources. If you become a dual citizen with the Philippines and the US, since you don't have Philippine sourced income, you won't have to file a return in the Philippines. US citizens have to file a tax return with the IRS - and possibly pay taxes - regardless of whether they live in the US or elsewhere. If you end up having Philippine sourced income then you would want to check into any tax treaties the US has with the Philippines to ensure you don't end up being taxed on the same money twice. The US has tax treaties with many foreign countries that addresses the situation of double taxation and if you have foreign income can often claim a foreign tax credit on your US return for any taxes paid to another country.

You will find the information you need here: http://www.bir.gov.ph/taxinfo/tax_income.htm under 'Who is Required to File Income Taxes: Individuals"

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and for the website. I really appreciate your help. Happy New Year!

It depends on the other country laws. If they tell you have to pay taxes than yes you will, uncle sam will hunt you down either in the US or outside the US lol. He has a blue passport that overpasses any country lol. America will taxe you on any international income you make. So it depends on the other country that you have their citizenship.

You would be shocked as to what the IRS knows about you, your income, access to all of your credit card records, bank statements, purchases, etc. When called in for a tax audit, first question was, since you have all this information, why do you put me through all this misery of trying to figure out what of your 1025 forms to use, or where is there a way to get access to your 13,000 pages of tax laws?

Just send me the bill!

But to the best of my knowledge only the federal IRS and state IRS have access to this database, foreign governments do not. Have no idea of how much you are earning or if even working.

I suppose if you wanted to, could search the net for your home country tax forms, attach copies of your 1099's and W-2's, fill out the form and send them some money. Would be sure they would be happy to get it. And perhaps will even demand it the following year.

The only country I am aware of that makes you pay taxes when working in a foreign country is the good old USA. But can be exempt if you don't even put a foot in the country for some period of time. Use to be 18 months, not sure of what is is now, change the tax laws every year.
