I applied on Sept 25. I received my noa and FP letter. I performed early bio on 10/09/12, initial FP was scheduled for 10/17. My green card 3 year anniversary date is Dece 23 which is in less than 10 days from today. The last update on my status online was on Oct 3 when my FP letter was mailed and the status still on Initial Review. My local office is Pittsburgh which processing time is at 5 months. I was wondering if anyone is in a similar situation? thank you.

I'm glad you said what FP was, because I had no clue! As to your question, I'm not sure if you are in the September filers group but it would be a good place to start to see what others who filed at the same time as you are dealing with. I just took a quick look at the last few posts and it looks like some folks there are still waiting for interviews as well. Others have heard about upcoming interviews as recently as today.

Don't forget to update your timeline, by the way, so that others who are also anxious about their interview date can take solace in knowing they are not alone.

Getting those ten year green cards was the real panic for us, state passed a law where they would fine an employer $16,000 for an undocumented employee. Was difficult to explain a one year extension notice, even more difficult to explain an I-551 stamp in a current valid foreign passport. Not only with the school, but the DMV as well.

At the time, N-400 applications were posted at 11 months for our field office, we applied for US citizenship in late March, this occurs after president month with a long time to Memorial and the 4th of July. Process went so quick compared to the removal of condition stages, wife said, Oh, my God, have to study for that civics test.

Stepdaughter turned 18 before my wife could apply, but did apply in late September, hers took longer because unlike the rest of us that have to work, government gets to take a week off for Thanksgiving, and another couple of weeks for Christmas, if I can call it that. It wasn't until late January she finally received her interview letter. But that occurred during her mid terms, poor planning on her part.

Least my stepdaughter got a couple of years with her new green card, after that long wait, wife had to turn hers back in after a month. She didn't want to give that up after that long wait. Then that mad rush to get her US passport, if anything happened to her mom, she couldn't travel like she was able to do so before. Both had their biometrics (FP's?) completed within a month from the time in sent in the applications. That normally goes quick because done by a different group of people.

You have other things to do until then, Christmas shopping, paying your property taxes, a new dog license, and preparing to file for your 2012 income taxes, relax. Then studying for your civics test. then afterwards, getting your US passport, more money, updating your SS card, DMV status, notifying your employer, banks with the APA, and voter's registration. That will also keep you busy.

If our DOS made an agreement with your home country that you must maintain dual citizenship, it is not dual naturalization like they like to call it, also have to renew your foreign passport as well. Now you have two passports you have to maintain.

One reason to rush to get your US citizenship is in hopes of getting a government job, but since they are deep in debt, laying off right now or forcing early retirement. Not much chance of getting one of those gravy jobs. So again, what is the rush?
