Hello all. I hope everyone is well. I have some questions regarding my fiancee and her possibility of having tb. She is from the phillipines and our visa recently got approved on November 8, 2012. She went to her medical exam last week and everything went well except for her xray. They told her that there is a chance she may or may not have tb and they want her to come back for three more days of testing. She did that and completed the sputum test. Anyways, she is done with the testing and was told to come back this friday (phil time) for her results. After being told it would take 2 months to get the results, I am suprised that she will get her results then. My questions are these:

Will she actually get her results this friday or are they just having her to come back to tell her she has to wait longer?

If, she indeed does have tb, will she be able to come here to be with me in my country, or does this mean she cannot? If so, how long does she have to wait to be on meds? I have heard 2 months all the way to 6 months?

When will she have her interview then?

I am hoping this means she can still come to my country and it is just a longer delay. Thnak you in advance

I heard there is two types of TB. She has had no symptoms of it so far, just curious if anyone has any thoughts.

My wife, then fiancee had to come back to the medical clinic for three mornings of sputum tests. The physician saw a shadow on her X-Ray. She was cleared as the results showed no active disease. 1 month later, she had a successful K1 interview. Things will be ok.

On Friday, St. Lukes will tell your fiancée the results of her three smear tests. At that time, depending on the results of the smear tests, it's possible they may start her on medication which will last a minimum of six months. However, most likely they will tell her to wait eight weeks for the results of her TB culture. If the culture turns out positive for TB, at that time they will start her on the six-month treatment for TB.

If her culture is negative, St. Lukes will reschedule her interview at that time. If her smear tests or her culture are positive, St. Lukes will reschedule her interview after her six-month treatment is completed.

Ok so she will still be here someday? I dont have to worry about denial or anything like that? I just heard it is possible for someone to be denied if they have tb. So if she is negative, we may not even find out until february? If she is positive, we may not even find out until february right? Eithier way, it sounds like we have to wait until fenruary for the real decision? If she starts meds onf riday, what exactly does that mean-that they have her results already from the culture?

Are they able to tell or have a good idea if she has tb this friday? I just wonder if she waits two months if she would have it or not. Basically this friday she may or may not know if she has tb? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like worst case senario would be august of next year or september.

If her smear tests are negeative is that a good sign her culture will be? if the smear is negative, does she still have to wait two months?

If the smear tests are negative, it's no guarantee that the culture will be negative as well. She needs to wait 2 months for the result of the culture. If it turns out positive, then she needs to undergo medication right away at St. Luke's Extension Clinic. She has to go there every day for 6 months. If she decides to go elsewhere to get the medication for the TB, then St. Luke's will make her wait another 6 months in addition to the 6-month treatment. My mom is in the same situation. Her smear tests were negative. She'll find out the result of her culture later today. Either way, she won't be denied a visa because of her TB. Her interview will just be delayed.

When I said right away, I meant the following business day, not right after being told that she's positive for TB. At least, that's what I understood from my mom's case.

so I am looking at eithier sometime in march for her to be here or all the way to august? If she waits two months from today and has a positive culture, then she would go on meds for 6 months. Eithier way, we want her smear test results to negative right? It is comforting to know she will still be here someday next year for sure.

Smears negative and Culture negative = March

Smears positive = 6 months medication plus 2 months sputum at the end = August

Smears negative and Culture positive = period waiting for the culture result until she gets a call from St. Luke's saying it's positive ( maximum 2 months ) + 6 months treatment + 2 months culture result after sputum. = October

so if her smear tests are negative, she has to wait two months for another negative hopefully, but if her smear test is positive, she would start it soon on the meds right? Just want to make sure I understand and thanks so much.

Right.

Right.

so she has to do sputum after 6 months so really 8 months after culture result? More than likely after the 2 months of sputum she would be cured right? so if her culture is positive, she has to do 6 months treatment plus two months sputum?
