My wife just received her green card a few months ago. We are planning a cruise this January that goes into Mexico. I have a US Passport. What documents does she need to travel. The cruise leaves from US port and come back to US port but makes a day trip in Cozumel, Mexico. Is her state ID and green card enough or do we need other documents to make sure everything runs smooth. Thanks for your help. Big thanks for all those that helped us get to this point of green card.

As a US GC holder she can travel to Mexico without a visa. She will need her passport and Greencard for travel... state ID will not be so useful.

ROC:

She will need her passport and GC in oder to travel to Mexico. As a LPR she does not need a visa even if a citizen of Russia is required to obtain a visa to travel to Mexico.

Have a good trip,

Dave

Her passport expires just before we leave for the trip, will that need to be renewed?

Yes (!) She cannot reenter the US or board any vessel bound for the US without her passport.

Really? I thought a green card by itself was sufficient to enter the US. (I agree that she needs to renew her passport in order to enter Mexico).

We just had to deal with this issue and had to cancel our trip because her passport was expiring.

You will likely have difficulty renewing her passport in time for the trip.
