I have a distant relative in Syria, she is 16 and me and my family always had her in mind for marriage. I want to ask for her hand in marriage but I need to make sure I can bring her to the US. I am a born US citizen. I read about the K1 visa, but I don't have pics, email, phone calls between me and her as of yet. She was too young to talk about these things. I also can't show that I went to see her in the past two years because the situation is Syria is dangerous, I'm sure they are willing to work with me on that specific requirement. Can a 16 year old get the visa and marry me here? Or should I go the CR1 route? If so I can meet them in Lebanon or Tturkey and do the marriage certificate there.

How old are U? I know things are a bit different here in the west but I dont think the counsulars are approving these K1 left & right to minors for marriage, Y cant U wait for her another 24 mths, in the meantime U can talk to her about school

the situation there, world events etc.Yes they will make some comprise for spouses waiting from Syria, but I dont think for the purpose of a 16 yr old coming here from Syria to be married...good luck

I'm 22. I really don't want to wait and don't want to leave her their waiting. Since the US embassy in Syria is closed, I can meet her in Lebanon for a couple of weeks to arrange the weeding and fill the marriage certificate . Then come back here and file the CR1 right ? Is it alright to bring a marriage certificate for my application, I which she is 16?

At 22 I doubt you are going to want to hear nor listen to the advise given here but you should. I cant imagine a worse situation than trying to marry a 16 year old from Syria that is related to you.

As far as I know you can marry her in that part of the world. Once you have done that you could file the 130 petition for the C R 1. You will wait about 6 to 8 months to be denied or at the very worst wait about 18 months for her to interview depending on world events; during which she will be denied. How will you or she explain that you ran over to Lebanon to marry a girl after you were around her for two weeks?

Since you cant wait you should consider moving to Syria or Lebanon asap. From what we see on T V it should be quite an adventure.

Arranged marriaged are fine for immigration, as long as they are the cultural norm. But you will still need to show a bonafide relationship- this will be difficult with no communication...

No, they will not work with you on that specific requirement. You could marry if it is legal where you can arrange to do so, but you'll still need to convince a Consular Officer in Syria (where she lives) that your relationship is genuine. That's not a walk in the park. You might want to ask about that part in the applicable regional forum here. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/97-middle-east-and-north-africa/
