Hello Everyone:

I am a US citizen who is married to a Spaniard. At the moment, we both live in Spain. We had a civil marriage ceremony last year and we are thinking of starting the paperwork so that we are able to move to the US in the near future.

Can someone please tell me what we need to file and how long this process takes?

All the information provided would be great!

Thanks so much!

You will be filing for an IR1/CR1 I-130 with the guide here.

I don't know if spain allows for direct consular filing, but that will be something you need to look into.

Process typically takes 8-12 months but if DCF is allowed in spain, that may expedite the process, HOWEVER, i think I read somewhere that that isn't necessarily the case so much anymore.

In the past, I've seen DCF Filings taking 2-3 months.

Use the "Guides" located at the top of the website in the blue bars just under the site's logo.

They were the most helpful starting tools for me. Then when I had questions I would ask those in the forums.

Do the documents that have to be translated have a validation for a certain amount of time? For example are they valid for 6 months or they do not have a due date?

Translations are translations. They don't expire.

YES they do expire. In Spain they do. That is why I asked. Every country is different!!

The US Government agencies involved in the immigration process will not care about any expiration dates on "translations" of documents.
