NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s food police have struck again!

Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Glenn Richter arrived at a West Side synagogue on Monday to collect surplus bagels — fresh nutritious bagels — to donate to the poor. However, under a new edict from Bloomberg’s food police he can no longer donate the food to city homeless shelters.

It’s the “no bagels for you” edict.

“I can’t give you something that’s a supplement to the food you already have? Sorry that’s wrong,” Richter said.

Richter has been collecting food from places like the Ohav Zedek synagogue and bringing it to homeless shelters for more than 20 years, but recently his donation, including a “cholent” or carrot stew, was turned away because the Bloomberg administration wants to monitor the salt, fat and fiber eaten by the homeless.

I spend some time on a military reservation in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. When we were not working, the fishing was great, and freezers were stuffed all over the island I was on, with fresh yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, etc. None of it could be served in the mess hall, because it was not "USDA inspected." :unsure:

LMAO!!! I love it. Starve the homeless because they might be getting super sized cokes. Liberal 101 at it's finest. You don't want the homeless eating anything with saturated fats and MSG. :rofl:

Well, he is a Republican, and we all know how those folks like to starve poor people.

ETA: He left the Republican party over "policy differences" in 2007, running as an Independent.

Although Bloomberg may have jumped the gun, it would be equally disingenuous to state the homeless will starve without the donations, unless you were shooting for symmetry...

You do know, that in order to include Bad Daddy's signature, you would have to edit his reply and add something that was not already there, don't you? Folks that don't have signatures turned on would not even see that graphic without you editing his posts. He should report you for that TOS violation.

Move the homeless into New Jersey, put them on work crews supervised by union workers,

to rebuild New Jersey.

They can sleep in Trump Towers Casino till the work is finished.
