Congrats on quitting! You guys all supporting each other is going to really help.

As for the nicotene... you're using the patch, so there will continuously be nicotene in your body until you phase that out, correct?

Yep, the patch supplies nicotine to your system. If you want to get it out, ditch the patch.

I quit cold turkey last year in August. Well, I reduced for a couple of months from about a pack a day down to about 5-7 per day and then I put them down. I reduced by not smoking in the care anymore, then I stopped taking smoke breaks at work, etc. until I was down to a couple of cigarettes in the evenings. It was rather easy to let it go from there. Haven't looked back since.

They say the nicotine will be out of the system within a week, if I remember correctly. Then you're fighting the habit rather than the addiction. Sometimes the latter is harder than the former.

But Congrats on the decision and Good Luck sticking with it.

Yes, let me add that Rey quit smoking early this year, and he used the patch very successfully. A few months ago he really, really wanted to smoke so he used the patch again for just one day. It made a big difference for Rey. Also he bought a LOT of lollipops. :)

PS Reinhard I bet you are especially glad you quit now, what with the new addition to the fam.

eta: ...who is SO unbelievably CUTE. (I think I'm the only person left who hadn't said it.)

I've heard similar. I knew a guy who quit through a Seventh Day Adventist's program. They told him the first 3-4 days you're fighting the physical addiction. After that, you're fighting the psychological addiction.

YMMV. I've never smoked in my life (my father dying of lung cancer saw to that).

Good luck!!! :)

I've always heard 3 days/3 weeks.

First 3 days are the worse but it remains bad for 3 weeks...IF you can make it 3 weeks you SHOULD be fine...I have yet to make it 3 days

Actually, I quit for her. Always promised myself that I won't be smoking when I have kids. I grew up among smokers and didn't want that for my kids. So, when the time came that we were starting to get serious about having our first, I thought it would be a good idea to get a head-start on putting them cigarettes down.

Oh, and thanks - she likes to hear that:

Congratulations billsgirl on quitting!!! My husband is a smoker and he wants to quit too, he has tried many things like patches and candies but nothing. The patches caused him nightmares, so he stopped using them. Now he doesnt know what to do, any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have decided to quit smoking as well. I had a cold a month back and my cough is still hanging around and i know its due to my smoking. Also im having spine surgery soon and the doctor said for the fusion to heal better its best not to smoke. Im going to try one of the tablets you can get thru the doctor, hopefully we all will be successful!!!!!

My 2 year anniversary is in January! I smoked for 18yrs and quit cold turkey. I have to admit I was more than ready. I think that is a big part too. You have to be ready. Everyone has their time so to speak. For me I found the first two weeks very difficult. I literally went from one hour to the next. Another thing that helped was when I would get the craving I would get up and do "something." That made my mind switch gears.

Good luck to you! You don't realize how different things are until you quit.

You are not supposed to use patches when you sleep for exactly that reason. You remove it before bed and put it on the moment you wake up.

Devilette did hypnosis to quit smoking and she said it was awesome . . .

If you mean Welbutrin, I never had any ill effects from it, though one of our own did as I recall!

They know who they are! ;)

I didn't have enough to go the 3 weeks you are suppose to take it, my mother had success with it though.

My cousin used Wellbutrin when she quit & she became the Antichrist. We were roommates at the time & it was not pleasant

be careful when using pills-everyone has a different reaction. I have been talking about quitting-now it is time to do it
