I got an RFE for the most recent year's transcript on September 20th, it arrived on the 25th and I ordered a transcript that very same day. After two weeks when I didn't receive the transcript as promised, I had my husband who is away on training call IRS and order a new copy.the automated line was "experiencing technical difficulty " so he somehow managed to get a hold of someone at IRS and they told him that they had no record of the request I put in online, and that they will send us the transcripts. That was last week.

Now this Friday when I called the ordering transcript specific number I got the same technical difficulty message and now considering I have one more month left, I'm freaking out. I can't go to a local office because I don't have a license and I used my " free ride with friend " card for my biometrics.

A) if I call IRS , can I request a copy of the transcript considering I'm not the primary tax payer

And B) what should my next move be as far as getting a hold of IRS? Should I call the local office? Would they have the authority to mail me a copy of the transcript? I'm completely lost so any advice and suggestion will be greatly appreciated.TIA

Have you moved since you filed the tax return? Tax transcripts requested using the automated system will only be sent to the address that the IRS has on record. If you need the transcript sent to a different address then they need you to fill out the request form, sign it, and mail it to them. They won't send it to a different address without your signature.

If the address isn't the problem, then you need to consider what the issue might be. Tax return transcripts generally take less than two weeks to receive, and usually they arrive in less than a week. I've ordered three years of transcripts on two different occasions, and always got them within 5 days. Are you having difficulty receiving any other mail? Did you get a refund, and did the refund arrive without any problems? I'm just wondering if you have a problem with your local mail service, or maybe kids in your neighborhood are raiding your mailbox.

If the tax return was jointly filed then there is no "primary taxpayer". You're both equal in that regard. Either one of you can request a transcript.

Yes, you can usually get a transcript at a local IRS office. I wouldn't risk having the transcript get lost in the mail again. I'd find a way to get to the nearest local IRS office and get the transcript.

No, the mail isn't a problem, I get regular subscriptions and packages. I'm thinking ill give the 1-800 number another try tomorrow, call the local IRS office and request a transcript, and have my husband go in the office near his training spot, thanks Jim

You can order them online, it may be easier. It's very easy, takes less than a minute and you should receive them in about 10 days (I did it 6 times each time with no problem).
