Hi,

I entered US in Dec 2010 on CR1 and we have lived in two different locations after it. Now- as we were going to file for I751 for removal of conditions on residency, one question has me startled. Was I supposed to notify address changes to USCIS?

Now- I have to list out the addresses where I lived last 2 years. Will that be a problem cos I never notified USCIS on adress changes (if at all I was supposed to) :(

Appreciate your answers..

Yes, you are supposed to notify USCIS of any change in address. Also, your sponsor is supposed to do so as well. Form AR-11 for the GC holder, form I-865 for the sponsor. Find these on the USCIS website.

At this point, submit the forms for the change to your current address. Also use the current address on the I-751. There should be no problem.

just to make sure you understand you are LEGALLY required. You have 10 days from moving to change your address. The sponsor has 30 days (some places say 10, some say 30). Failure to change your address can have really bad consequences. If they send you paperwork you obviously don't get it. If they come by your house they find out you're not living there anymore they can revoke your status (I believe it's revoke). If you are denied something because you didn't get the mail, you cannot appeal because you failed to follow the requirements, you'd have to re-apply.

I don't recall anyone else in your position (moving twice and not notifying). I've read moved once and that's easily fixed... just file the AR-11 and i-865 and hope for the best.

We forgot to inform them for one of the address changes and we researched this a lotttt. After reading about it, we found out that yes legally it is required to inform them. but it is not something that is enforced. So they are not going to fine u , or arrest you cuz of it. It seems alot of people dont even know about this rule. I even read about people who forgot and their case was approved with no issues. Just remember from now on, always inform them of an address change. They have an online form you can fill out and it only takes 5 mins. Just go ahead and do it now for your current address so that its updated incase they need to send you something. This is just a suggestion though, i am going by what I have read through online.
