My fiance and I are getting our materials ready for the I-129F petition, and my fiance mentioned that I should get a letter from my parents to show that our relationship is legitimate. So I helped my parents prepare a letter to show that indeed our relationship is legitimate. Since she will probably be going to the Guangzhou consulate she got worried and had me prepare this letter. So I could get advice on the letter and anything else that would be great, thanks

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is in support of our son Kevin xxxxx, and his fiancée Wei xxxxx and their application for the K-1 visa.

They met each other through the internet in June 2009 and have since kept in contact through email, instant messenger and phone calls. In July 2010, Kevin traveled to China to meet Wei Congyi in person for the first time. Since July 2010, Kevin has traveled to China to meet Wei Congyi three times and have kept in contact for over 3 years and they have developed a close and loving relationship. It is their intention to marry in the U.S. within 90 days of the K-1 visa being granted. Please consider the remaining documents and evidence.

Sincerely,

Curtis and Sharon xxxxx

As long as you include all of those things in your initial application, you should be fine. They don’t require a sponsorship letter or any recommendations letters.

As far as I know, such letters from family & friends are considered secondary evidence. Make sure you do have enough primary evidence, such as boarding passes and passport stamps. Good luck!

(I got a little confused with the topic title, because it says "Sponsorship Letter", which first made me think you were talking about the Affidavit of Support - which you won't need until the consulate stage btw.)

I know it doesn't say that it's required on the I-129F petition, but the reason I added it is because my fiance found forums that recommended it, probably because the Guangdong (or Guangzhou, I get the province and city mixed up) consulate is more strict and tough to get through.

The letter won't hurt your case, though it is doubtful that it adds any more evidence that you have a bona fide relationship.

If your parents had actually met your fiancee and interacted with the both of you together it would have more merit. And if it makes her feel more confident, then it's worth doing. Domestic bliss is a good thing. :)

Stick with the guidance from VJ members that have been successful at the Guangzhou consulate.

Do Practice on writing up an Evolution of Relationship letter, try to submit one WITH the I-129F.

Here's my example (not for a K-1 though) at

I wrote one very similar and included it as a supplement page to #18 part B of the I-129F.

Looks like you followed the advice previously given to you in your recent similar-themed thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/386754-letters-for-k-1-visa-petition/page__p__5656693#entry5656693

What other evidence are you providing with your petition?

Here is the evidence info from the VJ K-1 Guide:

"Documentary Proof of Having Met in Person in the Past Two Years and an Ongoing Relationship:

Use as many of these items are possible. There is no minimum, but the more you can provide the less likely you are that you will receive an RFE. Additionally, please note that providing proof of your ongoing and genuine relationship in this package may benefit you by allowing the consulate to have access to this information prior to them formally contacting the non US Citizen fiance. Many high risk consulates approach cases with a skeptical eye and providing this information early on in the original I-129F package will help them in their preliminary review of your case.

1. Copies of all airline boarding passes, train passes, itineraries, hotel receipts, passport stamps (make sure you can read the dates on the stamps), and other documentary evidence that you have met within the last two years. You may want to highlight or place post-it notes indicating the dates and locations on the copies (to make the adjudication easier) for the person reviewing your file.

2. Color Photo's of you and your fiance(e) together. Make sure you write your names, date, and location on the back of every photo. Provide two to five photo's. If you only have a single copy of the photo, then make a color copy and send that. If it is a digital photo, have it printed at a company such as kodakgallery.com. You can also make duplicates of photo's at your local photo store (Walgreeens, CVS, etc). Place photo's in a plastic bag or photo sheet and label the sheet. Note that you may not receive originals of photo's back.

3. The following items will not typically show proof of having met in the last two years however will show proof of an ongoing relationship: Copies of land line and cell phone bills, appropriate letters and emails, stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)"

Good luck on your visa journey.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)
