Sorry! I should have clarified. I received *text* NOA1s, all 3 of them corresponding to the 3 forms we'd filed for. We haven't received any emailed NOA1s, and the texts mentioned that hard copies of the NOA1s are en route. Does that help? :)

P.S. The signature below clarifies.

Ok, I get it now. :) Don't worry at all about the emails. They probably didn't activate email notification for you. They screw up the electronic notifications a lot. You can take your case numbers from your text messages, go to the USCIS website and activate email notification there. Also, when you look up your case numbers it will tell you exactly what the emails would have said.

Thanks! We already looked up the receipt numbers (is that the same as the 'case numbers' that you mention?) on the USCIS tracking page. I didn't see an option to activate email notifications, but I'll look again later. Right now we're sort of wondering what the next step is. I've searched around on VJ and it seems the next step should be my (non-citizen's) biometrics? Is there some sort of flowchart/timeline that shows these steps?

  • 08/19/2005 – Entered U.S. as student. F1 visa, D/S.

  • Late, late 2007 – Met M (on a Harry Potter fan chat of all things. Curiously, neither of us are big HP fans.)

2009 – Graduated, awarded post-completion OPT (1 year).

2010 – Began M.A. program.

2011 – Graduated, awarded post-completion OPT (1 year).

09/17/2012, Day 11 – Received NOA1 hard copies for all three forms and received biometrics appointment [10/4/2012].

10/4/2012, Day 28 – Completed biometrics.

There's an option on the website to create an account. Go here: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/selectusertype.jsp

You can add all your case numbers there, and that's where you can check to see if emails and texts are activated.

I don't think there's a flowchart, but yes, biometrics should be next (as long as there's no RFE.)

Thanks again. :)

We noticed that our I-485 still shows that it's in "Acceptance" on the USCIS tracking site, though the other two forms have moved on to "Initial Review." Is that normal? We were kind of wondering since the text below the progress meter for I-485 indicated that it usually completes the "Acceptance" phase in 2 business days from receipt.

Hey guys:

Just decided to leave my "foot prints here" as I also filed this September. :) Just so that I can join the club. I mailed my stuff on the 4th of September, got the text message on the 7th of September that they got my package and cashed out. Then on the 14th I've got the hard copy of NOA forms, as well as the I-797 appointment for biometrics for September 27th. I decided not to do a walk-in after asking around here and finding that some cases, yes you can get in and do it through walk in, other cases you get kicked out. I decided that two weeks is not a give or take, but the time to drive to the office and getting kicked out is just not worth it. Plus, everyone on this forum said it doesn't speed up the process, so I'll just follow the rules and I'll just go for the appointment date instead of do a walk-in. Either way, it is next Thursday....all right, just wanted to join the September club. :) All the best everyone!

Update:

3 hard copy NOA's arrived in mail on Saturday, which made my weekend :D . And not only that, the finger print appointment came in on Monday for Oct 11. Yay.... Thanks DHS, the pace seems picking up.

Is there any significant benefit to you doing a walk-in at this time? Judging by past commentary in the forums on that point, it doesn't seem like it'll make any real impact, especially since October 11 isn't all that far away. I thought about doing a walk-in as well (Jamaica ASC in Queens, NY), but ultimately decided it wouldn't be worth the trouble. My date is October 4th.
