i-134 and supporting documents question

Hello,

I am trying get everything ready for our interview and have seen people talking about turning in tax returns with your i-134. I have a couple of questions because I would rather not turn in my tax returns if I don't have to, and never made enough until this year to support my fiance anyways.

I am not self-employed so do I need to include copies of my tax returns? I have included a letter from my employer, a letter from my bank, paychecks for the last 6 months and bank statements for the last 3 months.

Am I missing anything for the i-134?

I appreciate any help you can give.

The US Embassy in Costa Rica asks for Form I-134 – include job letter, earnings statement, and letter from bank. So you should be ok with not including any tax returns. The documents are country specific. Look at this link for more detailed information:

Thanks for the suggestion, I have been following that in this process so far, but I didn't see my question addressed and that is why I put it out there... I was pretty sure I didn't need them but saw a few posters that talked about including them so I just wanted to be on the safe side. I would rather have too much than not enough.

I'm not an expert on this but, regardless of the documents being country specific, I'm pretty sure you'll still have to present your taxes.

Let's wait for more replies from those who know a lot more about the subject.

In our interview letter from Jamaica, it stated what supporting documents they require for the interview. So if you received the interview letter, see if it mentions anything in there.

Yikes, we got the interview letter and it does mention the taxes. Looks like I will have to send them to my fiance.

Do I have to make copies of every page or just certain ones? How does this work? Will they need originals or are copies enough for something like this?

I don't know how it is for Costa Rica, but in Argentina the accepted 1040/W2 copies at the Interview for us. I never had to show an original, but I'm not sure if that's the norm or an exception to the rule. However, I know for a fact that, if you request transcripts from the IRS, you can send those in and won't have to worry about originals or not. They look like photocopies anyway...

IRS tax transcripts were the way to go for us. Easily obtained (~ 10 days), concise (~9 pages) , free, and accepted by the government (they come from the IRS).

You will need to make a copy of the complete return: all forms, schedules, attachments and W-2s and/or 1099s. I agree with the others about the transcripts. You can get them free from the IRS and a copy of the IRS transcript is all you need. No worrying about whether or not you made a copy of everything and no need to include W-2 with the transcript either.
