HI!

I will be appling for citizenship in a month :)

We are moving in a week in a new place and we were wondering if we should change address now (AR11) or send the N400 with our old address and then submit a change of address once the check has been cashed.

I heard about a 3 months residency requirement before filling N400 but we are confused.

Please note that we will be moving to the new apartment but have access to our old place for the next two months since my husband has some renovations to do there!

Thanks!

AC

what i would do, i would file n-400 with the old address, because now if you change it your mail may get all screwed up at a bad time since your husband is going to be working there for three months. the whole precess should take around 4 to 5 months for your oath ceremony.after your husband is finished in the apartment ask the tennets to keep an eye open for any immigratiom mail to keep it for you give you a call, this is just my option, you will be getting the letter of receipt, you will be getting the bio appointment letter, you will be getting the yellow letter mybe, you will be getting the appiontment letter, look on your computer uscis case status online every day,if you file the G-1145

Yes, there is a three month residency requirement of living in the state or USCIS district where you claim residence. I would file the AR-11 now and do not forget to have the USC file the I-865 change of address for the Afdidavit of Support also. Put your new address on the N-400 application.

Good luck,

Dave

Thank you both for your answers.

I think I will go on the safer side. Change address and fill the N400. So the requirments is to live in the past 3 months in the same state? I guess it's fine if we move from Queens (NY) to Brooklyn (NY)?

I would advice NOT TO LIE ABOUT WHERE YOU LIVE. At the interview you will be asked where you live, how long and so on.

You lie and your bio from the fbi does not match, means you are lying under oath and will be denied citizenship and your money will be gone + other complications.

Plus did you say you move within the city of NY to another part of NY. As long as the move is within the same district where you live and move to, you can file today your N-400 and change your address within 10 days of your move BECAUSE ITS THE SAME JURISDICTION and maybe even the same immigration office. I would call customer service number and ask if both addresses fall within SAME jurisdiction for your citizenship application. I am not talking SERVICE CENTER, but actual field office. You can also just wait a week till you move. YES, 3 MONTHS OF RESIDENCE WITHIN SAME JURISDICTION FOR THE OATH CEREMONY.

I agree to all what been said above.

You can use your NEW zip code at the OFFICE LOCATOR link at USCIS website to find if it will yield the same office as the one related to your current address.

This way you will know if it will be the same office or another one. Otherwise, you can contact customer service but they will do exaclty what I told you.

Thank you!

In fact we are moving but really staying in both places for 2 months until renovation in our old place are done.

I just checked the office locator and our new zip code match the NYC Federal Plaza office while our old address is in Long Island (2 hours drive from our house).

So if we change address in September 2012, file for citizenship at the end of September will we meet the 3 months requirments by the interview?

The 3 months residence requirements NEED TO BE MET BEFORE YOU FILE if not they will reject your application.

so, once the renovations are done you are moving back into your old place?..then you are not really moving then?

Oh I am very confused now!

We are officially starting the new lease on Sept 1st 2012, move a few things and still be going to our old apartment for the next 2 months.

If we change address in September 2012 can we file the N400 on Sept 17? We are moving from Queens to Brooklyn (NY), is it the same competent district?

Help guys!!!!

You need to reside in the same DISTRICT for 3 months. In looking over New York, the district office is at the Federal Plazza where your local field office is for your new address. The Long Island Field office is under the New York District as far as I can tell so you are still in the same district, but now at a different field office.

USCIS

New York District Office

Jacob K. Javits Federal Building

26 Federal Plaza, 3rd Floor, Room 3-120

New York, NY 10278.

The USCIS office that serves your area is the:

Long Island Field Office:

This office is located at:

30 Barretts Avenue

Holtsville, NY 11742.

The USCIS office that serves your area is the:

New York City Field Office.

This office is located at:

Jacob K. Javits Federal Building

26 Federal Plaza, 3rd Floor, Room 3-120

New York, NY 10278.

From what I can tell from all of this is that these two field offices are under the same District office. So I would move, file your change of address using the AR-11 on-line and the I-865 for the USC sponsor of the I-864 form and then file the N-400 using the new address. You are remaining within the same state, just changing cities. You are actually moving less distance than most of us would so I would hope you remain in the same district.

Good luck,

Dave

Hi guys,

I just called USCIS and they told me that the office district is different from my old address and the new one, therefore I am not eligible to file N400 since I need a 3 months residence requirment. NOOOOOO!!!! That's so unfair!!!!!

The representitive put me on hold for over 4 minutes and his answers weren't really convincing.... is it possible that 2 NYC Boroughs are in different districts?

What do you think if I file N400 with my old address and after 1 week I change with new address?

Help please I want to file N400!!!!!

Thanks

I guess I would hang my hat on the "...live in the same state OR district." You are still in the same STATE so I would file and see what happens as long as the filig fee being lost does not place a hardship on you IF that happens. My thought is that is why they have the OR in there as you can change districts but remain in the same state or change states, but remain in the same district.

Did you happen to get which is the district office--not FIELD office--for Queens as I could not find one other than NYC (Unless field office and district office are the same but them why is the one at the Federal Plazza listed as District office and the one on Long Island listed as a Field Office)? Otherwise you will have to wait until December.

I know it sucks, but I had to wait 3 months too after I moved. Patience is the virtue. If she said, you need to wait your 3 months I would wait. The reason you must have 3 months before filing is they must have legal jurisdiction over you. And they dont unless you spend a minimum of 3 months in theirs. Hang in there, 3 months will go by quickly !! If you are not sure you can call again....? Why would you wanna risk your application getting lost between offices and loose the money ?? Its not the lottery.

Hello Friends,

I have same situation as I am moving to new address in NJ and then filing N400.

Would you please provid me the link to search the location based on zip code? So that I can make sure if both places are within the same district/field office?

Thanks Much.
