I just checked my mail box and another I-797, Notice of Action

...same receipt number, alien registration number...everything, except...

The approval date is October 18, 2006 while the first one was dated October 11, 2006.

Has anyone heard of this happening? Which date should I go by? Should I call USCIS on Monday just to make sure this isn't going to cause any confusion with NVC?

CSC is so happy for you, and so approving, you have been approved twice over!

I would say keep both copies, but stick with the first approval date. Send Jinky both, and any more approvals you get for her interview... Bizarre, but doesn't sound like a bad thing!

Good luck!

Thanks!

I had called USCIS on Tuesday afternoon and spoke with a live person who said my petition was approved on Oct. 11th. She noticed that no email notice was sent out so she offered to track it herself and that she would follow up on it if I didn't get an email within a couple of days. She said something about a glitch in the notification system. I'm guessing that is why I got the second notice, but it's a bit troubling that the approval date is different.

I guess that USCIS just doubly approves of your relationship:). Congratulations - again!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Their systems and procedures are so poor! But USCIS will tell you that a paper document is the most reliable source of information. You are definitely approved and should just save both letters. I assume the Approval Date you mentioned is based on the Notice Date on the I-797 form. Does the date range shown under the words Approval Notice begin the day before the Notice Date on both your Approval letters?

The main thing that matters at this point is the date in which your petition arrives at the embassy in Manila so you can get in line for the interview. If you try to find out what has actually happened to your petition or which is the actual approval date from USCIS, you will get no help from them. I spoke to an agent and a supervisor and got nowhere. They will just tell you to wait to hear from NVC and ask them.

Keep checking with NVC if they have seen it yet and maybe they can tell you which approval date is shown. It can get there fast so hopefully yours will arrive very soon.

Best of luck!!!

Yes, I will call NVC on Monday first and then ask them what date they have. If they haven't received it yet, I'm going to call USCIS and ask them which date I should go by, but I'll definitely give Jinky both approval letters for the interview.
