Since you’re not allowed to go into the actual interview with your fiancé and you have to wait in the waiting room, are there any benefits of traveling to your fiance’s country for the Visa Interview Date? Other than for love and support…obviously.

Chile allows the US Citizen to go into the interview with the Chilean fiance. Maybe its different depending on the country but I would double check that you cannot be in the interview. In Chile the US Citizen sits down and waits while the fiance hands in the paperwork then the fiance sits down with the US Citizen and then they get called together for the interview. If the US Citizen goes to the interview she or he is also asked some questions. I was told this by both the US Embassy in Chile and from ppl who have attended their fiance's visa interview in Chile.

Just double check you cannot go. Good luck! :)

What Lalo & Susana report for Chile is what we experienced with our CR-1 interview in Ecuador. We were interviewed together.

Indeed many have been denied visas (or decision postponed) in Ecuador if the spouse/fiance is NOT at the interview.

Check your Consulate for information.

I dont know about your country but in my husbands country Nigeria I will not be allowed in for his interview I will have to wait outside. But even if you can not be in the interview it is good to be there if you can so your SO can tell them you are there waiting for them when the ask last time you were together. But check with your Embassy to find out if you can go in like the others said.

OK so Peru and Ecuador and I read another post today where they actually saw the fiance waiting and asked him to join the interview. Can't remember the country.

Support is obviously the best reason, and time together, but I imagine if for some reason they needed more evidence of an ongoing relationship...then "my fiance is here" would be a good answer.

The US embassy in Honduras allowed me to wait and stand at the window while my husband turned in extra docs, got fingerprinted, and got interviewed (I even answered a few questions). The waiting/sitting area is directly in front of the windows, so they could see us and we could see them the whole time.

They made me wait outside of the embassy when he went back in the afternoon to actually pick up his visa and passport.

I believe you are right and in Jamaica you are not allowed in... But as one other poster said what better evidence than to be able to say "my fiance is outside". Or how many times have they visited? # "and they are here now".

I mean besides love, and support, and well,.... Its JAMAICA!!! :D

Yeah, I've read other postings that said Jamaica doesn't allow anybody else in the interview. But you're right, it's Jamaica. Any reason to go is good:-)

Its up to you to do what ever you want but its not a requirement. i guess the USC being there help to provide moral support and help calm the nerves cause you only get one shot @ the interview and you want to be relax and not have to worry. if mine could be present, i would be glad to have her there

What I gather from reading a lot of reviews of interview from the embassy in Jamaica, the USC is allowed to enter the compound of the embassy, but is not allowed to be present at the interview. They are told to wait in the courtyard of the embassy.

For me, I really want my wife to be present. I'd feel more at ease knowing she's there to support me, as she's so good at giving an encouragement speech. She is also a much better organizer, so having her helping me to prepare my package would help a lot. :)

If you can go, go! It is not required by the embassy that you attend, but let me tell you, if your loved one is told no, having you out there is more than needed. Been there, done that. And finally, when the loved one is approved, you are there to embrace and make memories with them. And one day, you will sit back and say, "Remember when I was sitting out in the courtyard going crazy waiting for you to come out!!??" It's those things you can never get back if you miss them!

So, if you can, be there!! For them. Not because it is or is not a requirement.
