I have a friend in Pakistan who was invited for holiday in Trindad. I know that a visa is not needed but the question I have is the flight goes from Karachi to Dubai. Then connects to a flight to JFK, then the JFK flight connects to Trindad. With all this said, will she need a transit visa for any leg of the flights?

VisaHq has a little app on the right side of their page. You put in country of passport and then airport country and it will tell you if you need a visa.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Yes, your friend will require a transit visa for the JFK to Trinidad leg.

If your friend will be in Dubai for less than 24 hours, no visa will be required.

My source for this information is the search tool on the Emirates Airlines website. I found this search tool to be far superior than the VisaHq app referenced by NigeriaorBust. You can see the search tool here: Emirates Airlines Find Visa Requirements search tool

September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)

There are no transit visas in the US any longer. He/she will need a visa B1/B2 I'd think; he/she would need to bring evidence of the flights into Trinidad, invitations, etc. and thre is no guarantee of a visa. Check other alternative routes, for example, many outbound European flights go to Central/SouthAmerica/Caribbean and while in Europe he/she might need a transit visa (and maybe not), it could be much easier than the current itinerary. Once you have all information, your friend can make a much better decision.

Incorrect, there the US does issue transit visas and a US transit visa is a C visa.

MUCH easier to get a flight that does not involve the US.
