Question on F2A process

hello all,

I have a question on F2A process. I recently got my approval on I130 for F2A (PD Sept 9 2011 at CSC). Now, I understand USCIS will send it to NVC. All the guides/process I found on VJ are generally for IR1/CR1 category which states to start calling NVC for NVC number

for example:

3. NVC Scans Package.

This marries the USCIS receipt number to your newly generated NVC number which is based on

EEEYYYYOOOSSS

E = 3 digit embassy code (example TKY for Tokyo)

Y = 4 digit code for year (example 2008)

O= 3 digit code for Ordinal date plus 500

Example I. Aug 28 = 241st ordinal day ADD 500 = 741

Example II. 741 SUBTRACT 500 = 241st ordinal day (Aug. 28)

S = Sequence number of the day (if you were the second approval scanned, your code would be 002)

Full Example of NVC case number = TKY2008741002

OR

1) After receiving the case from the USCIS, NVC assigns a case# (NVC Case#)

2) Call NVC at 603-334-0700 to get NVC Case#, to provide both the petitioner and beneficiary email ids and to get IIN (Invoice Identification Number)

==

Now, my question is - as I am in F2A category - do I have to wait for PD to become current then NVC assigns a number? or I start my quest in a week or so? Just trying to see if there is any use of start calling NVC for numbers. Also matters as the beneficiary needs to get police clearance from Malaysia and Bangladesh as she lived in both these countries (currently in Malaysia) and we need to figure out when to get the PCC so that doesnot expire by the time of a visa interview.

usually it takes weeks before the NVC assign a case number for u. IIN doesnt seem important if they are not yet asking u to pay anything. Better provide them your email address so they can easily notify you. Regarding police clearance, dont prepare these things yet for there is an expiration for each. Wait till the NVC tells you to do so as to save money n effort. You can see my timeline below In my signature to track my processing so you'll have idea. Goodluck!

Hi everyone...While we are waiting for new cutoff date to be published... I have a question.

Our I130 is approved, NVC Nr. assigned (may 2012)... Now what? I am in USA visiting and still don't know how long will I stay... That is why I need info on further steps... Is it possible for interview to be scheduled for me soon? Can it be postponed? We didnt even got the bill to pay....

Thanks!

Hi fresia,

I think you will have at least a year, possibly longer, ahead of you before your priority date is current and an interview can be scheduled.

My F2A/IR-1 journey:

USCIS:
4 August 2011: I-130 sent (while husband permanent resident)
8 August 2011: Priority date
16 April 2013: NOA2

NVC:

7 May 2013: Case number received, DS-3032 sent

15 May 2013: AOS bill received and paid

16 May 2013: AOS package sent

17 May 2013: DS-3032 accepted

20 May 2013: IV bill received and paid

21 May 2013: IV package sent

11 June 2013: response to IV checklist sent

13 June 2013: Case upgraded to CR1

2 July 2013: Case completed

28 August 2013: Interview - approved!

21 September 2013: POE

18 November 2013: Green card received

My husband's citizenship journey:

8 February 2013: N-400 sent
4 March 2013: Biometrics

Yeah I thought of it but I assumed that I will need to be in my country for some paperwork or whatever...I dont want to miss some phases of the procedure... and in same time since I am in USA I want to spend time with my hubby as much as I can...

Thanks
