AP & Combo card Issues

Hey All,

My wife has the Employment Authorization and Advanced Parole Combo card which she used to visit her parents in Germany. She just flew back back to the States and the port of entry was Atlanta. At the Dusseldorf airport they almost didnt let her board the plane because they had no idea what the combo card was. In addition, the border patrol in Atlanta said they have never seen the combo card before and essentially gave her lots of problems. In the end they made her fill out some paperwork and issued her a new i-94 which is only valid for 3 days. Her change of status case is still pending. As soon as I found out about it I called the USCIS hotline and explained the situation. As usual they where completely unhelpful beyond telling me her adjustment of status is still pending and to call the border patrol in Atlanta.

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

Lol. Minneapolis TSA had not seen a "new" greencard (they are over a year old now) and had to call people and look up stuff... it was weird.

I'm sorry you had this trouble, but the real message is that she was allowed back in the country. The new I-94 doesn't matter. Best of luck.

I would call CBP on the phone and tell them of your experience so they can train their workers.

lol agreed. I had issues with my "new" GC in October 2010 and they were around since June 2010 at least.

Definitely call CBP and report the issue so their officers are re-trained.

Yeah, this was Dec 2011. I was standing there like, "what?" but at least they let me stand aside and wait. They wouldn't let my husband "cross the barrier." This was just for ID at security, not even for immigration.

For more info for the OP - a person traveling on AP should get a new I-94. The time is irrelevant (though 3 days is admittedly pretty dumb).
