Hi, my name is Patty and I'm new to this forum so go easy on me. I may ask stupid questions until I figure out the "Search" function here.

My fiance is Canadian, Jordan, and we've been together for 4 years and got engaged this March (yay).

I hope to be sending my I-129F package today. I've checked it many times to the checklist provided here on VJ (very helpful) and have a freind checking it now. I'm waiting for his photo (passport style) to arrive today.

My first question is about the I-134 Affidavit of Support. Someone (don't recall who) said I need to fill this out. I don't know when or where I'm supposed to send this. Should I include a copy with my I-129F package? Or wait for someone to request it?

Thanks,

Patty

Welcome to the forum! Don't forget to check out the Canadian sub-forum. Plenty of helpful people there full of good information!

The I-134 is needed when the beneficiary has their interview. Along with supporting evidence such as a letter from the employer, tax transcripts/returns, pay stubs, etc.

There are guides at the top that includes a flowchart of when you will need certain things. It's always good to look at to see where you are in the process!

No you don't fill that out yet. File the I-129 and send that package out. After your NOA2 when your fiancee is getting ready for her interview you will need to send the avidavit of support.

Thanks for the quick responses! I have it complete with all supporting documentation already. One less thing I need to worry about later.

The wait is going to kill me! I'm heading up to Canada on Friday for a visit. That will help.

You are looking at at least 6-8 months before the I-134 is necessary. I suggest waiting and having more up to date information once it's needed. :)

Thanks everyone!

We just hit a snag already. I had everything ready to go other than his passport style photo from him that he sent "overnight" (two days). Well we just found out that it's held up in customs with no estimate as to when it will clear. It's just a photo! Good grief.

Working on plan B.....
