Hi, my name is Patty and I'm new to this forum so go easy on me. I may ask stupid questions until I figure out the "Search" function here.

My fiance is Canadian, Jordan, and we've been together for 4 years and got engaged this March (yay).

I hope to be sending my I-129F package today. I've checked it many times to the checklist provided here on VJ (very helpful) and have a freind checking it now. I'm waiting for his photo (passport style) to arrive today.

My first question is about the I-134 Affidavit of Support. Someone (don't recall who) said I need to fill this out. I don't know when or where I'm supposed to send this. Should I include a copy with my I-129F package? Or wait for someone to request it?

Thanks,

Patty

Hi Patty!

I am Amberlynn, also have a Canadian fiance! If you need any help or advice or just someone to vent to (because its going to get stressful) let me know! As far as the passport picture, when I went to visit my fiance 2 weeks ago, we just went to Walmart for like $20 you can get them done and they are ready for you within the hour and I just brought them back with me along with all the other paperwork I had to have him fill out. Much easier that way!

Good luck on your journey! :) Take care!!

We went to get our passports photos done at Walmart as well. Their photo printer was down, so they just gave us the digital copy and sent us to another store to have them printed. It would probably be faster to have him get a digital copy, email it down, and you take it to the store to be printed.

What was upsetting is that we were done and ready to send the packages. I know a few more days isn't going to make a difference overall but it seems to now. He asked at 3 different drug stores for the digital file (I already confirmed that Costco would print it properly for me) and they all said they couldn't do it. Really??? Very hard to believe and very frustrating, especially with today's technology. Worse case is I'll bring one back with me and we'll send the package then. I just hate to lose a whole week.

Thanks for all the tips!

Great news, the package cleared last night and is on it's way to my house this morning. I'll be leaving work early to send off my I-129F before the 4:00pm deadline. Only one day past our target. :D

Congratulations on your journey. I have already completed the first couple of steps in the journey. I have learned how to be patient during this entire process. I am the Canadian fiancee. If you have any questions for further on down the line don't hesitate to ask. I have already done my POE and started my AOS. Just waiting on my EAD/AP to be approved. There are a lot of very friendly people where on VJ who will help you in anyway that they can. Good luck on your continued journey.

Thanks! It's great to hear from so many people with a similar situation.

Question....there are soooo many acronyms used and I've figured out quite a few just by reading info from this site, however there are still some I don't know. Is there a listing of all of them on this site?

Welcome! Here is the link to common abbreviations: http://www.visajourney.com/content/us-immigration-abbreviations

Also, be sure to change your filing location when you get the first notice of action. It will list where it was forwarded to. Once you change it, you will get a more accurate estimated timeline to expect NOA2. It is confusing because we initially send it to Texas, but this is not where it will be adjudicated. Vermont or California will be the place.

Oh, okay, I was wondering why some said California when I'm instructed to send it to Texas. That makes sense. I live in California so I'm assuming that what they will assign me.

Thanks everyone!

We just hit a snag already. I had everything ready to go other than his passport style photo from him that he sent "overnight" (two days). Well we just found out that it's held up in customs with no estimate as to when it will clear. It's just a photo! Good grief.

Working on plan B.....

Welcome! My fiance is also from Canada and we filed our K-1 last month... Oh how I remember the "waiting for his passport photos"! Took his 9 days to get here, but I got them and sent off my petition the very next day. :)

9 days, yikes. I just got confirmation from my neighbor that the envelope with the photo just arrived...with a big US Customs sticker on it. LOL So it took 4 days to get here. Guess I shouldn't complain.

I now have another timeline to watch! I'm so glad we have other Canadian to follow.
