IR5 - Got AOS Approval - What Now?

 Share

14 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

My mom filed an IR5 application for my grandmother and everything got approved. They want an Immigrant Visa application form which we will be sending this week along with the necessary paperwork (original birth certificates, death certificates, etc). How long will it take from the moment I send the paperwork to when my grandmother will be called for an interview? She's in India (Mumbai consulate).

Also, how does the health check work? Does that get done quickly?

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are saying that her I-130 already got approved and you are now on NVC processing...I guess that it won't take more than 3 months tops for her get her visa and the health check is done on the day that she books to go see the people at the Clinic in Mumbai...Are you guys already looking into health insurance for her? They might ask for prove of health insurance on the day of her interview at the Consulate. You should get more information how to go along with the process looking into the US Consulate website in Mumbai.

at some point, the DS-3032 is added to the casefile, and the IV fee bill is generated. Once it's generated, ya pay it, then send it the IV packet .

Then ya wait a bit (30 to 60 more days) for an interview date to be set.

Once the date is set, an interview lettter is sent out (usually via email)

and then, only then, does one get the medical done.

as for time and timing, your mom mostly controls that, during the NVC intake process - as she's the one sending off the documents.

Here's some timeticks that you might find useful:

AOS FEE BILL Generated

Where would we be able to get more information on the Consulate interview questions/issues? I mailed out the final package of documents to NVC yesterday (5/18/12) and am crossing my fingers that she gets an interview call in 2-3 weeks (crossing fingers!).

As for health insurance, we were planning on getting travel insurance but needed to know if she as going to get approved first..

Also, is there a website for NVC where we can look at the current status and processing timelines to get a better sense of when the Mumbai interview date will be?

The questions basically will be personal ones about the petitioner and beneficiary relation...such when you move to America,if you have kids maybe the name of the kids...where do you work...if you are married...bla..bla...bla...they could ask for pictures of when you were young but is very difficult to get to something like that!! If you have a real relation with your mother she should have no problem.I don't think just a travel insurance will be enough maybe you will need a proper health insurance!Never heard of any website were you can follow NVC timelines here on VJ sometimes you find threads of NVC filers for time of the month June,July...just look around!

Did the IR5 for both parents so known a bit more about than most and certainly more than any IR1.. The list of approved doctors will be sent out at some time before the interview. You (or the beneficiary, Granmama) is required to take the sealed package from the doctor to the interview, Make sure that there are multiple copies of all documents and have them with you (her) when she goes to the interview. If there is no b/c (India and some other countries are notorious for this) then have a sworn affidavit explaining this. The questions aren't difficult just basic stuff about who the beneficiary is, where she lived and maybe why she wants to enter the US, nothing crazy.

I've never heard of any health insurance requirement to enter the USA. This is a first.

Never heard of that when both my parents went through the process.

More likely you won't unless the parent have a health issue or a certain age it could be the case that the CO could ask for a health insurance in advance!

Have a look what Boiler says in this topic!

I agree. But it usually has to be some pre-existing health condition that is likely to become a burden on the taxpayer if the sponsor isn't able to afford it. It has to be something that is palliative or terminal in nature and it is always up to the discretion of the CO. My parents had a few health issues when they went for the interview but that wasn't an issue, nor was age, as i saw people much older being successful. That was at the Consulate in Montreal, it may or may not apply to the OP's situation.
