The K1 flowchart http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow says that we should contact NVC to check if they received our NOA2.

Is it mandatory or is it just a matter of being on the safe side?

Because we've been approved on May 3rd and since then, neither my fiancee or I made any contact with the NVC.

It is a matter of being on the safe side and for inteview scheduling purposes. If you contact NVC, you may be able to get your case number before any NVC notice arrives in your mail box. You can schedule your interview if a case number has already been assigned to you. Being that you were approved May 3rd, you should be able to obtain a case number by now as it usually takes a week or more for NVC to receive your file. You don't have to wait for the NVC letter.

OK got the packet 3 from Paris embassy.

No surprise thanks to VJ guides, except on the DS-230 Part 1 form, a comment was added by hand "+ copy of your legal status in France".

What document should I provide for that?
