Hi everyone!

Can someone please tell me what are the conditions to apply for a refugee based visa? My family lives in Lyari which is a neighborhood in Karachi, Pakistan and if you put "Lyari" in Google News you will see what really is going on there. People are trapped in their houses with no water, no food, no electricity or have gang members come to their houses to use innocent people as human shields in their fight against the police. It's been going on for three days but this is not the first time....this happens every couple of months. Some of my people have escaped to safer places but there are still family members stuck who have no way to get out. Is there anyway I can sponsor them or something to get them out (yes I know it takes over 10 years but is there a faster way based on humanitarian reason?) Also one of my aunts have her case completed but is waiting for her priority date to be current......it might take another 18 months, is there anyway to make her case be finished faster? Please please help me and let me know.

In all honesty, the US does not give a ___! I suggest a Expedite for Humanitarism reasons but the outcome is limited.

The US does actually not care when you get down to it. I know thats sad. To USCIS. It don't matter much.

Maybe there are more details to help you have not listed. Just be forewarned. Expedites are generally reserved for US Military Personel and not Immigrants.

We did do an expedite when karachi got so bad my husband had no transportation because they were burning all the buses and taxis and he had to walk to work at night and back *he worked the graveyard shift* and walking home would walk past a place where a family was gunned down just a hour before he walked home...

We did obtain the expedite (we had already been at USCIS for 3 months.. they approved the expedite and about 3 weeks later we got our noa2 but it didnt do a whole lot of good ... he's still there ... and we're still dealing with the black abyss of AP

Worth a shot but more than likely they will deny the expedite or like us approve it but have you sit in AP after the interview....

Pakistan is a very difficult embassy and the checks can long and painful...they must be done but they just seem to drag out...

Good luck... At least try for it. They didn't approve our expedite request for humanitarian reasons even though the city we live in is #1 in the world for violent crime. But it does not hurt to try!

My husband and I lived in Lyari as well. We see our street on the news everyday. I was only able to get him an expedite at USCIS level, but it did shave about 4 months off of the process, but of course, he did not have to wait for a visa number as a spouse. Good luck to you!

Probably best to look for a fellow Islamic Country, Saudi Arabia was in the news today for offering refuge in similar situation.

Seriously, if the USA opened its doors to every place that was dangerous or troubled, we'd double our population overnight. If we opened our borders to everyone who was starving we'd double our population overnight. We just don't have a capabilities to be the world's savoir. Some are lucky and manage to get in here. But there are trouble spots all over the world where its not safe to walk the streets, there's a reason the USCIS doesn't give a #######, we don't have the resources to give a ####### about everything. In a perfect world, maybe would could. But in a perfect world, there would be no need to. RiaB, I hope you can help your family get somewhere that is safer. Its a real shame when people who just want to live peaceful lives are caught up in the things going on there.
