Hi everyone! Happy Monday morning....!

I have a question...my husband and I have decided to stall a little bit due to the fact that we'd like to move back to the US in Nov./Dec. We applied early because at that point it was still unclear if we would get auto-expedited because we both live abroad or not (and in fact, we did). So now, what we would ideally like, is to have the visa in the September, so that we can leave at any point between September and Jan/Feb. Considering this, when should we stall? I was thinking of sending in the AOS soon, and then just waiting a month or so to send the DS-230. From sending in the DS-230 to having a visa in our hands, how long is that approximately? When should I send in the DS-230 in order to get the visa by September?

Also, can anyone point me in the right direction of where to read about the "rules" that come with the visa in terms of entering/leaving the US? For example, my hubby (I am the USC and he is the beneficiary) was thinking that if we get the visa too early, he could go to the US, enter with the visa, and then come back to Chile. Then we would actually move to the US 1-2 months later. Is that possible? Would I have to go with him? I thought he had to stay in the US for awhile until he got his greencard and SSN? Or is that not right?

Thanks!

Saylin has answered your question but I just wanted to clarify about whether you have to go with your husband when he activates his visa. What is your domicile status now? If you are having to reestablish US domicile you will have to travel to the US with or before your husband. If you are deemed to be abroad temporarily and maintained residence in the US then you can decide on how to interpret

the ruling. Here's a nice document for you to read. Search for domicile. link

I would definitely prefer to know sooner than later, especially because we are hoping to move up to the states in the beginning of July. Since my case closed on Friday, I will wait until tonight to call and see what the response is. I will be pretty bummed if I end up having to wait until the second week of May :(

You've only had case complete since Friday. Have you looked at timelines for others from your country to see how long it has been from case complete to interview notification.

I swear I am going to scream if they don't post the IV fee soon. I live within driving distance from the office in Portsmouth NH, I'll drive it there if I need to. mad.gif

This really sucks. My wife had called NVC and was told last week that we should get the IV billed invoiced no later by this Tuesday. Today she called up again and was told by a supervisor that because of the new lower fee it could take upto 10 days to get the IV bill. :help:

And is there any way I can stop following this thread ? I am getting hundreds of notifications in my email...lolblink.gif

Yay! kicking.gif Going to read it now! :)

You get notifications the moment you start following a thread. And I dont know where to unsubscribe to it, ive been looking but I cant find it

Depending which notification you selected (I always choose 'Immediate notification'), you only get notifications AFTER someone has posted in the thread; you shouldn't be getting any notifications from previous posts from before you joined. You should have only gotten 5 notifications so far. Unless you subscribed previously before posting in here.

Again, to change this, go to your settings, then forum, then manage watched topics. Select the thread and then choose unsubscribe.

Good review good.gifToo bad the CO seemed a little rushed and such. But, regardless, you got approved, and I think that's what counts in this case ;)

I'm glad they've started to require DHL/Loomis confirmation pages as it probably reduces the amount of errors (not signing up before hand). Although, if it wasn't for VJ, I wonder how many people actually know to sign up for and bring along the confirmation.

I've also got a question. You mention them reading off the computer details from the DS-260. Did they not ask you for a DS-230? Has Montreal finally gotten used to the online form?!?!?! ohmy.gif

And nice lady at DHL crossing off an item on your list ;)laughing.gif

You get notifications the moment you start following a thread. And I dont know where to unsubscribe to it, ive been looking but I cant find it

Go to the top of the page and beneath your name, you'll see "Settings", "Sign Out", and "Help".

Click on "Settings".

A new page opens and you should see: "Settings", "Forums", "Profile", "Links", "Chat".

Select the "Forums" tab, then select "Manage watched topics".

Click on the checkbox for "NVC Filers - April 2012" and change your options by selecting from the dropdown menu below it ("Unsubscribe" should be what you see there).

If you don't want to completely unsubscribe from notifications, select "Delayed notifications". That's what I have selected so I don't get an e-mail every time someone posts, but do receive a few each day.

I know, only one day, yet feels like a while lol. I am not expecting any news for at least a few weeks considering other VJer´s experiences in the past couple weeks. Unfortunately, other folks from my country don´t update timelines that consistently, but the most recent interview date I could find was only 3 days after case closed (but it was also right at the beginning of the second week of the month). So, I am hoping for a date this week, but am realistic about the situation :)

nvc still doesn't have record of our ds-260 yet. :bonk:

we submitted it on march 27 and the portal says it's been completed.

today's supervisor said they have our supporting package but it takes at least 20 days for ds-260 to show up on their system. anyone here got their ds-260 processed within 20 days of having submitted it?

update: hubby got mad and called nvc again and spoke to an operator since supervisors leave work early. turned out that they messed up our package from the beginning (started with assigning us to the wrong consulate, etc) and they never checked our EP optin, so no one checked our ds260 package. this operator said he can see a few errors by nvc in our file and he will flag it to a supervisor's attention. he said when we call back tomorrow and get a status update from a supervisor, we'll be able to get an interview date right away if they completed the case by then, because our case is now out of regular processing time frame.

based on our 66 phone correspondences with NVC to date, the above sounds too positive to be true..for one, supervisors won't ever admit nvc did anything wrong. anywaysss, back to waiting. dont ever wanna call nvc ever again.
