Possible Interview within the month. What do i do?

Hi guys, i am usually in the K1 forum as that is and was my main idea for what route i was going to take. However i have been told today by my girlfriends mother that i am wanted for an interview at her place of work as soon as possible. I currently am going to visit my girlfriend anyway from the 21st March until April. Obviously i did not plan for this interview to pop up. I was just wondering if i could get any advice about if this is even possible to do? I am clueless as to what the work visa consists of (sorry for being ignorant about it).

So, what do i do now?! Do i need to apply for a work visa/how do i apply for it?

Because this is so last minute, is there any way that i can declare at the immigration and passport control that my main aim of the visit is to see my girlfriend, however should i tell them that i have been informed of a possible job interview?

I am so lost as to how to deal with this situation, again, i am sorry for being so dumb and ignorant about this visa when i am currently looking at a K1 visa, really i should have looked into all the routes in more detail. I would appreciate any help with this, any advice, point me in the right direction. I know all of you guys will be way more knowledgeable about this that i am, so i need to listen to what you say!

Thanks guys! :)

No harm in going for a chat.

Work Visa's are dealt with by the Companies Lawyer. So nothing for you to worry about. Depending where you are in the K1, that could be quicker.

We havent started the K1 yet, we plan to in september. Thanks. So, i dont need to do anything different to what i normally do, just say im visiting my gf? I dont need to declare to the immigration that i may have an interview? Just checking i understand it right, and if i get further with working, then the company sort that paperwork out?

Thanks again

What sort of job is it?

Its gold buying, its nothing specialised so to speak, however the owner of the company (personally asked my gf's mother about me), her husband is Australian, and gained entry via a work visa, so its something she is more open to looking at than the regular employer may be. I know its not as simple as that, but thats about as much as i know. Shes having to re-hire her whole work force at the moment, and so is looking for candidates. I just want to know what i need to declare/not declare and the correct way to go about the whole procedure. I dont want to lie to the immigration, enter knowing i am having an interview, and then somehow being caught "searching for work" on a tourist visa.... i just dont want to risk our K1 visa should we still need to follow that trhough. Sorry if it all seems a bit dumb.

OK

So something for the future when you have your EAD through the K1.

I would not mention it.

I am clueless as to what the work visa consists of (sorry for being ignorant about it).

It's not a simple process. There are limits on how many are allowed each year. There are preference categories. Here's a link http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1323.html

Just make sure they are aware what work visa requires (it is mostly work and expense on employer's side) and not expecting you to be allowed to work since you plan to immigrate through marriage.

If there is a real chance of getting work visa, then go that route, move to US and adjust status (since both H-1B and L-1 are dual intent). For the interview trip, tell the truth - when asked. Make clear you plan to return home. And on your interview - make sure they understand they need to get you work visa. Might be difficult to get H-1B in a business you wrote below.

If job is not where specialized skills are required then H1 would not be possible. Which means she cannot hire you until you are married and you have completed your AOS which is like 6-7 months from your entry.

As per your time line you will apply for K1 in Sept '12 - approx you would get your K1 in May '13 then you would enter US and get married and file AOS Nov '13 is somewhere you might be done with your AOS.

You would be able to work in Nov '13 not until then.

Heres kinda rough timeline hopw it helps.

okay, thanks guys, thats really cleared it up for me :) I will be honest when asked about the purpose of my trip. That was my plan from the start. I have proof of return flights and my job (in the UK), so i can prove i will be returning. The rest of the info stated really cleared it up for me. IF i get an interview (its still all a bit if-fy to be honest), then ofcourse i will tell the potential employer about what they are taking on with regards to visa paperwork and costs if they chose to hire me, and didnt already know what it would include. To be honest im not pinning a lot of hope on it, there are a lot of things to consider that i havent mentioned. But thanks a lot guys!! Really helped me a lot here :)
