How long does NVC take to issue Case Number

I am sure this question has been asked before. But what was true 6 - 12 months ago, may not necessarily be the case today.

So, in response to current processing at NVC (in 2012), how long are VJ members reporting it is taking for NVC to issue a Case Number after Service Centers send NOA-2s?

Thanks,

I know it's till too early for me, but I cannot help but call the automated line, just to see if my NOA receipt number will be found in the NVC system. So far, not yet.

If you join the March NVC thread (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/354975-nvc-filers-march-2012/ ) the first two posts contain important information, including a FAQ which includes your question. Lately, it's been taking just around 2 weeks to get a case number from NOA2.

Don't call the AVR, call the operator. The AVR is always a few days behind.

It means exactly as it sounds like, your case is sitting in the mail room. It will then eventually get inputted into their system, and that's when a case number is assigned. Just keep calling once a day until you get it.

What visa are you applying for? Your profile says AoS. When did you file your petition? Has it been approved by USCIS yet? Please fill in your timeline as it's impossible to answer your question.

it took 1 week (from the time NVC received the approved petition from USCI) for them to send me the NVC case number thru email. maybe yours is on it's way.

They actually send you the case number thru email? Please pardon my ignorance. If that is the case, then what is the point of calling?

5/15/2012 Sent I-129F package

5/24/2012 Received NOA1

8/15/2012 NOA2

8/21/2012 NVC case number received

8/27/2012 Reached consulate/embassy in Japan

They can only email your case number (and other correspondence) if they have an email address on file. And for them to have an email address on file, you need to provide it to an operator once a case number is assigned. They may have the petitioner's email address from the G-1145, but it's not a guarantee. If they don't have any email addresses on file, then they have no choice but to snail mail packages. This is the whole point of calling.
