Hey people,

What's a reasonable wait time to receive packet 4 before contacting the consulate?

I sent my packet 3 on the 10th of Feb, arrived and signed on 13th with no word as yet.

I've wanted to email them but kinda know i'll just be pulling out my hair waiting for a reply to that too.. lol.

Ben.

Have you called the Department of State? They can tell you whether or not you have an interview scheduled. Some people never receive Packet 4.

I am in the wrong thread... but if the Philippines works the same way maybe you can learn. Once our K-1 went to the NVC, the NVC issues a MNL#, your number would start with something different. You call up the NVC and get the number they issue your package before your information is forwarded to the US Embassy in Austrailia. With that number they issue you, you can then you schedule your medical and make your appointment with that number.

We never waited for any packet 3 or 4. Sometimes they never come. It's a waste of time to wait. You don't need it. To give you an example, our NOA2 was approved on Dec 28th and we had her medical and interview done by February 15th and she will be here by March. I hope this helps you. Search the forums for MNL# for more information to give you an example of what people are doing in the Philippines.

Right, it is different for every country. I know that here, in Ireland, the Embassy give YOU a date, you don't get to decide.

Phillipines, you can choose.

Get in touch with some others who have gone through your Embassy.

Similar predicament here, also is there a 'normal' period of time that passes before you can start to feel safe from RFE's?? was not sure when I should follow up on whether my stuff was sent to Dublin yet or not as I thought they would still be processing it??

I'm not gonna make it back for my 1st anniversary on March 26th, but as long as I get back I'll be happy, Cheers

you don't have to wait for that as long as the NVC assigned you already the case number then you can proceed to medical and have an appointment at you embassy for the interview.

I'm not really sure how the IR-1/CR-1 process works, but I know there are differences. Having said that, your file should be on it's way to the Embassy shortly. Have you called the NVC? They will be able to tell you if they sent it or not.

In relation to the RFE, don't know about the IR-1/CR-1 timeframe on RFE's. Sorry

You should get it real soon. You can email the consulate to let them know you haven't received it yet just to make sure they didn't send it to the wrong email or something. Some get it within a week. Someone else I know was waiting a couple of weeks and when they eventually got it the interview was the following week.

Have you called the Department of State? They can tell you whether or not you have an interview scheduled. Some people never receive Packet 4.

Actually everyone does and the Department of State is irrelevant to the process now. The file is at Sydney.

I am in the wrong thread... but if the Philippines works the same way maybe you can learn. <snip>

Nope. Completely different process.

Get in touch with some others who have gone through your Embassy.

That's probably why they posted in the Aussie/NZ forum.

Wrong. Country specific advice.

**NOTE** I appreciate people from other countries attempting to answer this question but once the file moves on to the beneficiaries country the information becomes country specific. Giving incorrect advice can really confuse people while they try and make your advice work for their situation, like putting a square peg in a round hole.

Thanks for that, I just emailed them. I figured it can't hurt and at least that way I've put it out there.

Congrats!! :) I'd say the email probably helped. I'd pat yourself on the back for taking an interest in your case and being pro-active :) Now to prepare for interview (read some consulate reviews). It's WAY easier and less stressful than you think it would be. I would say in 3 weeks you'll have your visa in your hot little hands :D
