Passport for a baby, father is a American

How should I get an american passport for my little one, 5 months. We want to go to the US next month to visit his dad.

Dad is american citizen by birth born on jacksonville

We met highschool here in the philippines

got married last year.

gave birth sept 02.

we already have two kids, but the concern is mainly for the little one's passport. HELP PLS :innocent: :innocent:

Do you have a tourist visa and the older kids US passports? I don't think you can get the baby a US passport within a month, because CRBA (Consular Record of Birth Abroad) takes some time.

no, i have an appointment this week, my older kid is not coming with us, i was thinking if i could get the little one a US passport or philippine passport so we could schedule an interview together....

the only way that your little one will be able to go to the US is with a US passport or a philippine passport with a visa. The baby is entitled to a US passport, so you just need to do the CRBA...like stated above though it does take some time to do the whole process. It would be quicker and better if you just did the CRBA. Getting a visa for your baby will take 4-6 months or more.

I don't know if it depends on your embassy, but at the us embassy here in stockholm they told me my babys passport would take about 3-4 weeks. Once you have all the paperwork collected just call for an "interview" and then you'll have the passport within 2 weeks after that. Read more about it on your embassys web page

its fairly easy, for example I applied and scheduled CRBA for my 2 daughter in manila US embassy on July 12 2012 we were approved on that day and the passports came in on january 28, 2012. even the interviewer in the embassy will tell you it will take less than a month to process

Did you get your dates wrong there? July 2012 hasn't happened yet and July 2011 to January 2012 would be a long time to wait for the passports.

It depends on when the child is born as the law has changed a couple of times, but the current law is 5 years residency in the USA, 2 of which after age 14.

Refer to my timeline re: CRBA.

1) You're child is automatically eligible to apply for a US passport and Citizenship, regardless!

2) Do not even think about applying for a visa for your child -- or even ask. Go straight to CRBA process!

3) Get your child a PI passport as well, by this you'll no longer have to apply for an "exit permit". Why? bec. if your child only holds a US passport, he/she is considered an "alien" staying here in the Phils. So to avoid that hassle, might as well get a PI passport. It's easy it's cheap and it's the safest way to go.
