This might be a stupid question

Hey everyone,

I have always heard the stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked so here goes... When they ask for the evidence of meeting in the last two years can it only be two years? We've been together nearly 4 years and there are times we have met that I have evidence for before the time they ask for. I'd like to be able to tell them when we started our relationship etc, how we met the first time. I also have pictures I wouldn't mind showing that are from before 2 years as well. Like my graduation from High school (that he was at), prom pictures, etc. Thanks in advance!

They don't care about that stuff, they just want stuff from the past two years. If you send them stuff from outside that period, they might get confused and think you haven't met within the required time. Don't do it.

Just send them evidence for the last 2 years. I don´t think they want to hear your whole story. They only wanna make for sure a couple really has met each other in person within the last 2 years.

You can tell them the story on how you met....but they will only consider evidence and proof that you have met within the last two years face-to-face to satisfy the requirements of the law.

You can use the evidence from before to show that you have had a long standing relationship but I would save it for the interview not send it in with the I-129F, but you need to provide evidence that you have had actually been together with in the last 2 years. Edited October 2, 2006 by YuAndDan

You must prove you have met within the last two years to meet the criteria for obtaining your NOA2 and moving the case to the consulate. Concentrate on sending evidence to meet this criteria. The remainder of the evidence will build a solid case for an on-going relationship at the interview.

If you mention in Question 18 that you met 4 years ago, I think including one or two pieces of evidence to support his is okay. Just do not overwhelm them with evidence outside of the time frame they are looking for.

I have some words of advice for you, CONCENTRATE ON THE TWO YEAR PERIOD BEFORE THE FILING OF THE PETITION. I have been with my fiance for 5 years (and have known him for 7 years) and I submitted lots of evidence with my intial petition, and I got an RFE for pretty much everything. On the RFE, they wanted me to submit more evidence of the initial meeting, the last meeting, and the circumstances of meeting. I think that I sent them so much evidence that I overwhelmed and confused them (and I had only sent in a couple of stuff that wasn't from the time period they wanted).

So, for my RFE I submitted evidence from the time period they want, ONLY FROM THE TIME PERIOD THEY WANT. Also, in my circumstances of meeting I noted that although the initial meeting was in 1999, I was concentrating on submitting evidence from June 2004 thru June 2006 (the time period they wanted evidence from). I also attached an outline explaining briefly all of the meetings that have taken place between my fiance and I (around 9 meetings).

I sent pictures that proved we've met in the past 2 years, but I also sent pictures showing when we met, which was over 3 years ago. On the question 18 of form I-129F we also wrote when we met and all the times we've met since.
