I don't think anyone in the EU is in any danger of losing their cultural or national identity despite all the huabaloo about that. I also think anykind of EUizing of the Western hemisphere is also a ridiculous idea. It would be 2000000 times more disasterous than German reunification.

I don't think there is any thing wrong with American women if you look at how many americans get married to some one not from here we are by far the minority. it just so happens that the way we played are cards allowed us to find our love not in America. For me I found mine while on a Medical mission I was not looking I just happen to meet the love of my life.

For once I agree with Gary. The idea of an "American Union" sounds rather bad.

And as for the native americans being considered american, I was talking about north america, not the country referred to as america.

And I don't know about other tribes, but eastern cherokees prefer indian. To them, a native american is anyone born in america.

 I say let's make the America's like the European Union! :star:

You GOT to be kidding!! I would NEVER want to give up our national identity like that! I'm sorry Steven but that has to be the worst idea I have ever heard!

Why? It's working well for Western Europe.

Seems to me this is part of being a couple, this is what it MEANS to be part of a marriage, to give and take, both persons are participating IN the marriage.

Let's put it to you this way. Someone, a USC is courting you. And tells you how interested they are in "home, family, children" as values and goals in a marriage. And you, naturally, tell then, that yes, your goals and interests are the same. And since you appear to be pursuing similar goals you become engaged and decide to be married to pursue these similar goals and ambitions in your relationship together.

And they bring you to America and you enter on a K-1, you get married, and lo and behold.... you "change your mind" not only about your goals, but even about ~being married~ itself.

Certainly people in marriages make compromises and change their minds about things and situations all the time.

However, one could certainly argue that there was POSSIBLE misrepresentation, and POSSIBLE fraudulent intent from the beginning for somone to hold out supposed marital values under the guise of "yes, this is what I want from a marriage, let me into your country, I'll marry you and then..." OOOPS, never mind, I changed my mind, now that I'm here, this isn't what I -really- wanted...

Think about it. This isn't about changing your mind what shoes you want to wear to work today, or whether you want chicken or fish for dinner. I pray that this may NEVER happen to the people who've bothered to read this thread.

Dan, I'm sorry your marriage fell apart, but again, this isn't about saying 'marriages never fell apart' but 'it fell apart because he/she became American.' If everything is as you say, it fell apart because she was a liar.

I think in Canada the collective term for all of the native tribes is First Nations.

The continents are North America and South America, collectively the Americas. There's just not an adjective form for U.S. in English (and there's already a United States of Mexico, so that wouldn't work, either.) It's still ridiculous to build a fence, but for non-linguistic reasons.

This thread is ridiculous...

I would say that the majority of men ARE NOT looking for women overseas.

In addition, I would also speculate that with a few exceptions most people here did not go out LOOKING for a foreign spouse...I sure didn't.

This is a silly question to ask in a forum like this.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

And what is that map supposed to show? As someone who lives in the EU, I gotta go ahead and disagree. The EU is an abomination.

As a European, I think it's the best thing that could have happened to Europe.

Abomination of what? The map shows that each country is still a sovereign nation with their own government. There's no need to have unfounded fear of some world government that would swallow up the U.S. - that's just silly talk. It has more to do with economics and globalization is already happening.

As a European, I think it's the best thing that could have happened to Europe.

The byzantine bureaucracy, the stifling loss of sovereignty since countries are required to follow European laws and are not allowed to pass certain laws (such as bringing back the death penalty, for example). The euro is a joke and to me all EU expansion represents is cheap labor for wealthy western European nations.

The EU was created to compete with the United States but it seems like some western European countries (France, Germany) did better on their own and haven't done very well at all since joining the EU. EU-wide unemployment rates are abysmal and to be honest, it's all just a little too 1984 for me.

Hate it. It's nothing but a big fat waste of time.

It's the United States of Europe, ruled by a centralized bureaucracy on the Continent. Don't make me out to be one of those black helicopter people just because I don't share your sunshiney view of the European Union.

Caladan, thanks, I appreciate it.

And no, I never said the marriage fell apart simply ~because~ she became American-ized.

But, that being said, as she "integrated into the culture" the choices that she made (including lieing about these choices), it became obvious that her main focus was NOT on what she had said, having a married life and a married relationship, and these actions made the marriage less viable.

Perhaps we can simply say that while it wasn't the immediate reason for the divorce itself, it certainly was just another symptom of what went wrong.

Don't you think it'd be a wise choice to actually date someone face to face for a change?

I don't know any other way how to date someone, other than face to face, Lisa.

"Dating" usually requires two people to be in the same physical presence as their 'date', ie. "together".

Each country has it's own government with it's own Constitution. No laws enacted by the EU can circumvent that.

LOL, actually....where there is a conflict between EU laws and local (read: NATIONAL) laws then EU laws supercede them.

P.S. Its, not it's. "It's" means "it is".
