I was under the impression that as long as the documents sent to NVC (MC, beneficiary BC) were in the language of the embassy where your interview and beneficiary are located in then they do not need to be translated. Someone told me they do need to be translated though. Anybody that went through this recently, preferably in DR know the answer?

Guys, you have it all wrong.

The NVC web site says that either English or the language of the local country where the embassy is. There are a few exceptions to this, but DR is cool with Spanish.

If you want to be safe, translate to English.

However, my understanding is that requirement is dependent on the embassy. I wasn't sure, so I just sent an email to the US Embassy in Chile, and they replied back that as long the documents are in the language of the country the embassy is in (in this case, Spanish), they do not need to be translated.

Edit: Yeah, what magical said

Exactly. I responded to someone's post early hours of today about getting an RFE and one sentence in the paper was underlined with red ink stating that documents must be translated( His account paper for the AOS was in german). So to be safe and not cause unwanted delay( dont we all have enough of that already?)in the processing of your case, I would translate just in case...

Girl, you don't need to translate any document into english, I already send out my Package to the NVC without translating the BC & MC, and did not get anything back about it, I just got my interview date... :D

The interview is going to take place at the US Embassy in DR, and the documents are in the official language of that country.

Also I read someone that had an interview (in DR) and she said, she saw how the CO took out the translation from the BC & MC and put it in the garbage.

I hope This Helped you out!!!!

Thank you!!! I knew I wasnt crazy! I will double check with NVC before sending everything in, but I doubt I will be translating everything. Why make more work for myself if not needed?

For uscis I only translated the MC not my husband's BC since it wasnt needed. Alia look at the post below from a fellow DR member. I'm gonna follow her advice because last time I checked there is no need to translate to english.

"Translation Requirements

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate."

I got this off the NVC website. I was also under the impression that everything(M.C, B.C) not in english must be translated into english. But this appears to say that it's not necessary if the official language of the country is the same as the language on the M.C and B.C. I have the documents translated anyway but I was always under the impression that the documents HAD to be translated. I guess not.
