Was just reading a thread where an f1 visa holder came over 5 months pregnant,and Not only had the child on US soil, but used Medicaid to pay for the birth.

Do you believe children of illegal immigrants, tourists, or those on temporary visas should be granted automatic citizenship?

I think the child must have either a US citizen as a parent or both parents must be LPRs.

The problem is that that would be a very difficult and cumbersome process to prove and would create a whole class of people without citizenship status. Birthright Citizenship is clean and simple, leaving no room for any legal ambiguity. What would be a more reasonable solution is to scrutinize pregnant foreigners from visiting the country and possibly limit or deny travel to foreign women who are in their third trimester.

The question was about citizenship, not Medicaid.

Not particularly....don't you think by disallowing birthright citizenship, the onus is on the mother to make sure she's in a place where her child will not be born as a child without a country?

So we don't have a whole class of people without citizenship status already?

Not particularly....don't you think by disallowing birthright citizenship, the onus is on the mother to make sure she's in a place where her child will not be born as a child without a country?

The onus is never on the individual anymore.
