I'm going to have my mom and grandma co sponsor for me I'm a student at the moment so I don't have a job just yet, with both of them together we will meet over the poverty line by just a little bit like $1000-2000 my mom has a job and my grandma is retired. For my mom would her providing her tax returns for last 3 years and the letter of employment with recent pay stubs be enough evidence, as for my grandma because she is retired what kind of evidence will she need? she just gets social security checks and she has her tax returns for the last 3 years also. Do they also need to include their birth certificates and photo ID copies? thanks for any advice

For the form I-134 there is no combining of incomes. The co/joint sponsor must meet the income/asset requirement on their own.

Previous reply is correct, they cannot combine income.

Try and find another co-sponsor.

Ditto what the others have said. By the way, while it is a minimum income requirement that the co-sponsor has to meet it doesn't guarantee approval. For example if the co-sponsor you choose barely exceeds the minimum they can refuse to issue the visa. Even if the cosponsor exceeds the minimum by $20,000/yr (essentially doubling the needed amount) they can still deny the visa. It's the CO's discretion. Further, it's the embassy's discretion on whether they want to accept co-sponsors altogether. My point... as much as I hate the idea of the US govt allowing people to get co-sponsors, if I needed one I would find someone who has a 6 figure income. If you are going to go through the hassle why even risk the chance they will deny it based on the co-sponsor you chose?
