does everyone have to get a police certificate? I mean Daniel has ne ver been in trouble, so basically he's paying 35gbp for them to send out something saying he hasn't gotten into trouble with the law?

Yes police certificate is a most. And you need to get for every location (city, country) since you turned 16.

Would you expect the consulate to just take his word that he has never been in trouble with the law? This process requires that you provide a lot of seemingly unnecessary and redundant information...and it all costs money.

it's the rules, immigration wants to what kind of people thay are letting into the u.s,backround checks police reports are very inportant, if you have no police certificate, no interview.thay don't care about the price or fee that you pay or time it's you that wants to come to the united states,

i had to pay 10 pound for a birth certificate to show my mother and fathers names and to prove that i was born but yet i could just tell them all the info they needed... but i could also lie about it. USCIS and the embassy want documented proof of everything... words alone are not and should never be enough to prove anything. just be grateful he has never been in trouble cos then he would also require a 'subject access request' (£10) and 'memorandum of conviction' (£60) :)

We had to buy birth certificates for adult children who are not immigrating too! They simply want all the data up front. Had to buy the police cert too. Keep your wallet open, the entire process is made up of small invoices. It's like being pecked to death by ducks.

03-23-2011 - NOA1 received in mail, dated 03-09-2011.

05-31-2011 - RFE requested. They want better passport pictures of me.

06-06-2011 - Additional passport pics sent.

06-08-2011 - Evidence received and acknowledged. Whew!

06-16-2011 - NOA2 received!

07-20-2011 - Packet 3 Received!

08-01-2011 - Packet 3 returned to Embassy.

08-22-2011 - Packet 4 Received!

7/15/11 Sent K1 Petition to Lockbox

8/10/11 STILL NO NOA1!

8/12/11 Called USCIS to get receipt number-NOA1 will be resent

8/16/11 Received NOA1 with date of 7/20/11

1/3/12 NOA2!!!

1/12/12 Got email notice we are through the NVC.
