rebeccajo.. House looks wonderful...

Just a side not for you .

Currently it is a buyers market... at least here on the West Coast... houses are sitting waiting to be sold..

Hang in there.

MY GOSH.. it is a steal for the price. too bad it is not here in Oregon.. My daughter would snap it up in a hurry ..

Tomorrow we are out house hunting a house just 1/2 of what you are offering is costing well over 150K

A ranch house in Oregon my daughter is looking at.. Guess things are really more pricey here aughh.

Let your honey know... It would be wonderful to see what the deck looks like. In the living room is there a window. he can take a photo looking toward the window on what kind of view is there. In the bathrooms . photo the sink/tub area. so people can see what the amenities are like.

I have learned that in all the house hunting we have been doing with the kids.. it all comes down to how much work is needed.. and .. how updated it all is.

In the kitchen it would be wonderful to see what the cabinets look like in the interior... (cleanout one. photo it) show the specialness.. the pull out drawers for the pots.. are they on gliders. or how is it designed.

ALL in ALL it is a wonderful house. hope it sells easily...

AND> PLEASE.. tell me the paint color.. name. that you used in the bedroom?? want to do a golden sponged look kinda a India theme I think not sure. but I do like the color you used..

Definaetly can tell verbage is from someone over the pond.. heheh love it.. giggle at the "johnny closet" cheers...

Yes, I know it's a buyers market.

The sites not done yet Janet. There will be more photos as the day goes on. Including the deck.

There's not one damn thing in this house that needs updated. Buyer's market or no it shouldn't be just sitting. Bottom line is I listed the house with a realtor who only cares about getting the listings and then letting somebody else do the work of selling. It's all in the marketing. We'll see how this works.

Did you ever speak to Kathy? She mentioned the name of another website you could try to me, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was....

:star:

Oh yes Christina. Kathy and I did the email thing. She had some good ideas. Wes just chose freewebs.com because he's used it before.

My wife would love to have your kitchen, rebecca :)

Thanks AJ. Believe it or not they travel just about anywhere on the east coast to do an installation.

Janet I didn't see this question before.

The technique is called 'glazing'. My sister did this room for me. You buy regular interior paint (your color choice) and mix it with glaze - also from the paint store, just follow the instructions on the glaze container for the ratio of paint to glaze. There are several methods of application but my sisters' was most interesting....

The walls were initially off-white. I applied the glaze mix to the walls in 4 x 4 foot sections in a lattice type pattern with a roller - yes leaving white walls showing. Then my sister took a dry-cleaning bag, torn in half, and started 'smearing' the glaze around. There's definately a 'touch' to it, I think, although she says any idiot can do it with a little patience. You have to know when to stop smearing! After you have that section done, you do another 4 x 4 section, blending the sections into each other. My sister said when you start a room, you should always first try the wall that will be behind your bedroom door when it's open. That way if you have boo-boos in this 'test area' they'll be behind the door! It took her about 8 hours to do the room, and she used about 60 dry cleaning bags.

The effect of glazing makes the walls look very old. The dry-cleaning bags created 'cracks' in the paint and the walls appear to have texture. I agree it's beautiful and I can take absolutely no credit for it.

That particular color was Sherwin-Williams 'Tatami Tan' (you're lucky I still had some in the cupboard LOL). We used Sherwin Williams glaze as well.

Oh - 'johnny closet' is not a Brit term. It's 'deco-speak' for a cupboard installed over the toilet (the john).

What state do you live in Rebecca?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Some of you know that Wes and I have been trying to sell our home. Our goal is to buy a smaller house, in town, more suited to our soon-to-be empty nest.

We had the house listed for 90 days and came up empty handed.

Tomorrow we begin in earnest our 'For Sale By Owner' campaign. We've purchased a one-month ad in a local publication with massive circulation. The ad will contain this web address:

www.freewebs.com/shakerhouse

I'm at work right now and Wes is at home adding photographs to the site. Thought you might enjoy this work in progress....LOL...it also puts pressure on him 'cause I'm gonna phone him and tell him you all are watching!

Very nice presentation, rebeccajo. Just a recommendation, if you are really intent on making a sale, why not skew your pitch on the front page to affect what you want to achieve? A wise marekting guru ;) once said, to sell something, put your customer in it.

"Welcome to our house" might be more effective as "Welcome to your new home" :D
