VJ's Statistical Sampling of Population

I know there are plenty of us here on VJ, specifically applying for K-1's but for all sorts of visa's and other applications, but obviously everyone who applies to the USCIS isn't a part of this community. My question is how do you think the sampling of people from across the nation, different social classes, and all is a reasonable representation for what the entire set of applicants really look like to the USCIS?? The reason I ask is because as we have all been trying to make sense of the processing times of CSC and VSC, obviously there are more petitioners than just those who sign up on VJ. So when you compare how many people get approved over the course of a month or couple weeks, is it about the same percentage for overall approvals during the same duration?? (and the answers are probably completely opinion based unless someone has any real data which is probably mostly impossible (or illegal if you're on the inside) to get)

The other options are that simply randomly VJ people are being approved more or less than those who aren't on VJ so that would skew how we see the progress of the different Service Centers.

Just an interesting question that's been on my mind.

i'd say no because everyone here has to meet the 125% poverty level guidelines unless they have a co-sponsor, so that rules out a bit of the us population in the way of earning power.

Most people who migrate to this country are people of color, from South/Central America, Mexico, Asia, etc.

I get the feeling that the vast majority of VJ beneficiarys are European.

I'd say we probably represent a reasonable cross section so, Yes i would think

reminded me of the presidential election way back when telephones were just available to small portion of the US population. Some newpaper conducted a telephone poll that showed one of the contenders winning( i think it was Dewey) whilst in fact the other contender one. The flaw with the poll was that the ppl who had phones were ppl who could afford a phone. Similar case may exist here. Out of all the races of folks applying for visas, what percentage have access to the internet let alone actually make it to VJ?

... I don't have any nubers... so I won't guess numbers... but I would venture that the number is too small to make any kind of statistical conclusion. B)

but hey, sounds lie a neat project. ask ewok if he can set up such profile attribute and have the system compile it. it probably would have to be 'private' setting as to get most ppl to participate.

Uscis has immigrants percentages and from what country etc classes on thier website

at our interview was room full of latinos, and asians, desis and philipino . one german guy

prolly so.. but then you get into how finely to divide it? generic as in anglo saxon? or german/irish/croatian/russian/khaz(i know bro dean, that is in asia)/etc ...

I think it would be too much of a stretch for VJ to be a representative sample. Neither is it a random sample (because yes, while it is generally chance that brings someone here, they're already a representative of a sample, e.g. "computer users", rather than a population).

However, if you were trying to compare the population that is VJ over time, then you'd at least have a reasonable predictor (and thanks to the good Cap'n for keeping stats on that).
