I looked around and couldnt fine a thread about Hurricane Irene. I was wondering if anyone has someone in the path Irene might be taking on the east coast? I just got a txt earlier today from my fiance that the Hurricane might be shifting and heading for the East Coast. He's in Myrtle Beach 3 blocks from the ocean.... There is a chance that Irene will just graze them and that they'll just get the rain and wind. But he will be getting some stuff ready tonight in case he has to make a quick get away. Good thing his parents have a 2nd house in land that he can go too.

Oh and i told him if he had to make a quick get away... TOO MAKE SURE TO BRING THE FORM COPIES AND ORIGINALS WITH HIM!!!! haha... i dont want them getting lost or ruined. He laughed and said he had already thought about it :) hehe!

I really hope no one has loved ones in the path that Irene will be taking. But if they do, i will pray that they are all safe and have a place to go to wait it out!

Thank you to anyone reading this and anyone that responds!

Happy Journey!

Wow he pretty much has a front row view of the whole thing eh? Irene must be right behind them. I was watching the news earlier and they were saying that it might go up the east coast and hit New York and a bit of Canada. But by the time it gets all the way up here, it'll died down alot. As soon as it's going to hit land, it's going to start dying down.

My fiance was saying, that everyone on the east coast are praying that it wont be another Hugo. Lets hope not!!!

I know a lot of people in Jersey, Delanowhere, Philthydelphia, Virginia etc. It'll be a rain storm, but worst is all the flights that will be cancelled that will screw everyone up. I can't see much of anything bad happening with is since it's probably going to weaken as it passes by the Outer Banks as they are predicting. Meaning it'll probably just hit Long Island and cause some localized flooding or something.

Usually when everyone gets in to a massive panic like the news is going on and on about (that and the earthquake), nothing happens. I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly it veered off east into the Atlantic without making landfall. Though they don't think it will, it still wouldn't surprise me.

I think the most damage will just be the coast lines, so anyone living inland will be pretty much ok, unless there's a wide spread tornado threat. I think it would be fun to be there right now actually...

Depending on where you are (closer to the coast or further) folks here in Virginia are battoning down the hatches.

I'm in Northern VA ,west of DC, so we're expecting rain and wind, we're not low enough to experience any flooding. I am planning indoor activities tomorrow - maybe watch a few movies :)

NJ is in path. My in-laws went to board up their beach house last night. They actually closed casinos in Atlantic City and evacuated. I am about 60 miles inland so I'll get a lot of rain and wind, and I expect power outages and flooding.

People are panicking but it hasn't really sunk for me. I see people panic over 2 feet of snow and I all: "huh?"

I'm still not really sure what to expect. We live on the 9th floor of a building, pretty close to the ocean, but not that close. I'm more worried about a power outage and not having water (the downside of nyc apartment living).

Luckily my in laws are only like a 3 minute drive away so we'll just go there if it gets bad.

My husband actually bought bottles of water yesterday. I have to drive to Syracuse and back tomorrow. I'll be back just in time because the heavy rainfall is supposed to start by 7:00.

NJ is always flooding so I expect this will be worse than normal.

When I heard the Casinos were shutting down I was kind of like: "Oh okay... this may be serious"

Earthquake and a hurricane all within a week. Crazy.

I agree that some people will panic more then they have too. Its something you cant be sure of, and some people cant handle that. (look at Y2K and 2012) so hopefully you guys are right and that it's all just going to blow over.

I know that my fiance's stepdad was disapointed that i was going to miss my first hurricain lol... but im sure ill get to experience another one some day. I absolutly LOVE a good thunderstorm and i would of loved to be there to see this one. But im sure one day i'll see something. (as long as its a category 1 or 2, maybe 3) lol

They keep saying it'll be historic. I think Katrina was historic and awful. I don't see this being that bad. Maybe I am wrong. Who knows. I came in to work this morning to them preparing for it.

I know the flooding will be really bad. But I have a kayak.

Historic for New England, in Florida this storm would amount to no evacs and a mass exodus from the inland to the coast to surf the waves :)

Same thing with the earthquake, 5.8 on the west coast would amount to no news coverage and no one even mentioning it let alone probably even feeling it...

1 has to prepare for it, always expect the worst and hope for the best!! Glad we left DC, missed the earthquake and storm, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My fiance is a little worried but I think he will be ok. He is in Annapolis MD so I think he is just gonna get some high winds and rain. I checked out the google maps crisis map thingy (if you look at google maps there is a link, at least when I searched for Annapolis). Annapolis was right at the far edge. Mind you, I have never been in a hurricane before so who knows?

People are panicking but it hasn't really sunk for me. I see people panic over 2 feet of snow and I all: "huh?"

I am looking forward to my first winter in Annapolis! I mean, I was there during "Snowmaggedon" last January and survived. (The next day I saw maybe 6-8 inches of snow on the ground and thought, really? You call this a snowstorm?)
