Hi,

I have been here in the US over a year now and i still havent made friends, i am still not working so i dont really go out much other than with my husband.

I am really struggling to settle, i get home sick and miss my family alot.. I do not drive so im limited and i still dont know my way round properly. I feel kinda intimadated, i feel like a littlw mouse in a big maze and dont know what to do.

I am from a small town in England and now i live in a city, its hard to get used to everything being so far. They is alot of thing i hate here, and i really wounder how ppl can live here.. again im always comparing to back in England ( somethings do seem better over there, things i class as important like medical issues ) .

Iv created this forum in hoping to find/make friends and that feel the same way i do, I know im not alone on the way that i feel. When you have know one thing all yr life and then suddenly its all different its hard, its harder also when u hate alot of things too here.

I really hope things get better.

Things will get better!! :) What do you hate there? :D I really dislike the lack of pedestrian pathways and possiblity to get around by bike.

I haven't left Norway yet (country of nature and outdoor activities), but I've been to the US quite a few times. Their car culture is not appealing, among other things :D

Just vent from time to time, it helps greatly :D Making friends will be easier once you find work, start school etc.

Stay strong

I am sure once you start working and/or driving you will have more options available to you in the meeting other people department. I just got here a week and a half ago and have not made any friends, so I am hoping that it gets better soon also. :)

I am here if you ever want to talk :D

* I hate the medical system..

* I hate how everything is so expensive.

* Evrything thing always seems like alot of hassel (nothing is simple and easy)

* Having to pay money for a bank account, i mean what the hell is that all about.

Everything always seems so far apart..

This country should be rolling in money, i mean state tax and then also country tax.

* Back home ur employer takes the tax out of yr paycheck every week/month (one tax which is for the entire country).

* when u buy something the tax is already in the price so u dont have to worry about adding it on top.

* I never payed money for my bank acount

* We have medical care (NHS), Evrybody in England has medical whether yr working or not, even if yr an imigrant.

* Doesnt take you hours on end just to apply for a job, i can not believe the ####### they ask. unnessary Question as for as im concerned.

I may sound like im moaning alot but when i compare to what iv know all my life, Things in England seem better.

I maybe i also find it hard becoz me and my husband are lving with his dad, I feel uncomfortable most times, i do the cleaning as i feel i should becoz im not working which is fare anough.

I am a huge animal love and i want a pet, but my father in- law doesnt like animals in his house, back home i always had pets, i had to give up my pet rabbits to move here.. :( if i had a dog its be companian, and i think that would be away to get me out of the house and mayb meet ppl.

I would love to make the house more femine and also updated (living in the 70s) but of course i carnt.

They things i did back home and now i carnt do them, i didnt realise that it would be this way.

I was thinking of voluntering at a dog kennel or scrapbooking store, i have a passion for animals and art.

I have no Qualification here, i went to beauty school back in England but its gunna cost a couple $$$ to just convert my certificates and to find out if i need futher training ect, so that is also very frustating to me.

Until u have moved here u dont realise how much it is different, and how much u miss what u are used to.. Some ppl i guess adapt easier than others.

I dont think me being a shy person who has very low self asteem and no confidence helps.

As far as this state should be rolling in money? lol don't get my hubby started on that, its pretty dismal isn't it....they find every way and option possible to get money off the locals and still they don't have enough for everything, the roads are awful I don't need to run out to find a bumpy road to set off labor when the time comes every road is bumpy.. but then they put trees in some streets when the residents don't want the trees in the first place :bonk: ...

I've been here since early 09...still not got many friends...not anyone I can call round for coffee anyhow..always too busy.

but what doesn't help my case is I'm not working yet and I haven't had the guts to past my driving test...I had three months to learn and pass the physical exam and I freaked out...I'm used to the countryside of Kent and finding quiet roads to practice and these ones were just too scary and I gave up. but after I've had the baby I'm going to try again and maybe make another attempt at starting my own business..something else I stopped because I couldn't get my head around the multitude of permits and licenses. :help: I think if you can at least get your driving license it will help you be more mobile while your hubby is at work and will help you find work too. or you could try to go to groups or meetings? or find a local Brit bar with your hubby and make some friends with the regulars? I'm going to try and find a mommy and me class after October but not sure if I will find one in walking distance. the not driving is a real hindrance.

As for the whats better at home thing..I agree with you there are some silly things over here but try not to let it consume your opinion of over here or distance yourself from potentially enjoying the other aspects of life here. if you concentrate on all the bad you wont see any of the good. plus people don't want to hear only whats rubbish about their country when making friends.

I'm in Los Angeles near Santa Monica area where are you?

I'm in Los Angeles near Santa Monica area where are you?

Im looking in to doing some voluntary work at animal shelters, i love animals and i can not have a pet of my own, they have a meeting in september im going to go and check it out.. As for my driving i am going to attempt for the second time to do the permit driving test tomorrow, hopefully i will leave with my permit and be able to start learning, i did have a few lessons back home while i was in college but had to quit coz of money..

Well i thought it would be a good thing to get all my dislike out on here lol seen as i can relate to how other ppl think the same etc and right now im not sure if i can think of anything thats good here, again comparing to England.

Im in Rancho Cucamonga, im guessing Santa Monica is about a hour from us, maybe longer lol.

Congratulation on your pregnancy, Your so lucky. I really want to start a family but carnt coz of money.. :( we are so much in dept we will never be able to afford to have a family.

Im really suffering from acne since i moved here too and thats not helping me at all and again struggling to see a dermotologist coz they are expensive.. iv tried alsorts of stuff, now im just using some stuff from CVS but its not working properly.

Maybe once i do drive ill feel better lol.

I haven't left Europe yet, but the hardest part will be being without my family and friends. In Norway you to don't have to worry much about insurances and so forth, it's all covered by the government. I'm sure this will annoy me :D Although I can't complain about the level of expenses. US is much cheaper then Norway.

But there is a bright side to it, I get to be with him. :)

I also stuggle with acne.. I used MD formulations while I was there, and it proved to be a really good product for me.

Keep posting:)

Hi, Yes leaving family is very hard, i didnt realise how hard it would be till i moved here, when ur going through the visa and resident process it keeps you busy, but onces thats over u then realise.. I so wish my family was here with me all the time, i have never ever been away from my family like this before. I am very close with my family, Some days are worse than others, but i usualy pull through.:)

Marrying my husband was the best thing i ever did and i have a great marriage :).

I lived in North Yorkshire, in a small town (A hour from Manchester), alot ppl complained over there about things being expensive, but when u convert it $$ to pounds, it acually works out cheaper lol.

I have just passed my drivers permit test yesturday so now i can start learning to drive, I had a provisonal back home and had a couple of lessons but never made it to getting my full lience. Im kinda still scared tho to drive on these roads everythings so big and ppl drive crazy.lol

I have noticed that learners do not drive with L plates on their cars to let other drivers know yr learning, my husband is going to teach me, and i asked about the L plates and he didnt have a clue what i was sayin lol, coz back in England we use them.

I tried perricone MD procducts and they helped alittle but my face didnt clear properly, right now im just using Neutrogena and again its helped but still not clear properly. Makes me wonder if its something els, thats y i wanna see a Dr.. Iv changed my diet and im losing weight so i know its not what im eating.

When do you move out here and where u moving too?

Congratulations!! :) Im a bit afraid of driving there as well, so many cars and so few rules :D I have lived away from my family before for a few years, but I always made sure to visit every two or three months. If couldn't come, they would make the trip over to see me. Im used to having alot of people around me .. Not used to sitting in all day.

My first aim is to get a job. I have a bachelor degree in physiotherapy, but Im not sure how much good it will do me in US.

You have to start exploring, take the bus, metro, bike. Once you get more acquainted with the city, you won't feel so 'small' anymore. Take long walks on the beach. :)

I have my visa interview on the seventh of September. If they deem me as good enough for their country :D I will be probably be moving sometime in October. My habibi is located in St. Louis. No beaches or mountains/fjords there. :D

On the topic of facial products: I am using origins modern friction dermabrasion and it's fantastic.I have struggled with acne and bad skin since puberty, so Im familiar with most products. :D

Good night. :)

The regular antibacterial soaps, like Dial and Safeguard, can work wonders. Just wash your face frequently and thoroughly with only a soap like that.
