I'm researching the same thing. It depends on state and county rules. If she is here and has a social security number, that should be almost enough. In my county, I know they want proof of residence such as mail addressed to her at your local address. Surf the county government website, it should be on there somewhere.

Can my wife get a state ID while her AOS is still in process? We just want her to have an ID with my last name. Thank you.

Check with your DMV. That is where the ID's are typically issued.

In Oregon you have to have a valid I-94, but the ID will expire on the same date as the I-94. You may also use an EAD card or a green card. During AOS, after the I-94 has expired and before the EAD card arrives, my wife cannot have Oregon ID or a driver's license. She has to use her passport as ID.

This is different in each state.

I have my state ID already. I got all the details in DMV website. My husband was with me when I applied and I have my passport with I-94, marriage certificate, birth certificate and SS card. Since I don't have any billings under my name, the lady ask for my husband's driver's license and it was processed. It took us 15minutes and they will give your state ID before you leave. We paid $20 for it too. Btw, I'm from IL.

I received my NM driver's license having in hand my foreign license, my passport with visa, my SS and 2 proof of residence (car insurance in my name and my name on utility bill). It was pretty long at the counter because they do these often here, but I got no problem with it. Have a look at your MVD website it will list their requirements.

Good luck!

My fiance and I are not married yet but we went to dmv and he(being the USC) signed and affadavit, showed proof of both of our statuses and now the state ID is on the way in the mail. Like others have said, it depends on the state. It's only valid until the i-94 expires however.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

Girl,

being in California, you got lucky, big time!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
