One of the requirements is that you have to have met in the last 2 years, and you have to prove it as well, don't waste your time, money, effort and CHANCES by applying now. Also, wouldn't it be better for you personally to meet the man you wanna spend the rest of your life with? Algeria is almost settled down now anyways, there are tons of tourists you won't be the ONLY one.

first

I did not read what anyone has said but it is very hard for an American woman to get a visa to visit Algeria and you should have already applied if you wanted one:

2 appoicaions and 2 passport photos and your passport and fees and itinerary to travel have to be sent to the Algerian embassy in the US:

I have met women who have been denied so you may want to do as they did;

travel to Tunis in tunisia and meet him--no visa appmication needed

both can get there

next; skype does not let you print out any chats and they do not help by providing any so find another way to talk so you have a record of all chats

for the time now you have used skype; make out an affidavit telling you have talked on there and be prepared for an issue with this

use MSN of yahoo for talking and if your cell phone provider will furnish the record of your calls; get it

if you need to know how to do an affidavit; send me personal message and i will help

hello, all!

before i begin, thank you for everyone's help.

i'm a female american and i met my algerian fiance (who lives in algeria) four years ago online. i met him while i was separated from my husband and we fell in love.

we have talked almost every single day for the last four years. we usually talk by instant messenger (skype) but occasionally talk by phone (using phone cards) or we'll text each other.

we have not met in person. i was scared to travel to algeria especially after the bombing at the embassy and i thought i would stick out like a sore thumb as an american. i'm ready to go out there now but...

we want to submit for a k-1 visa BEFORE we've met each other. i would like to submit the I-129F some time this month (after receiving his letter of intent to marry and passport photo in the mail/post per the k-1 guides on VJ). so we have some questions:

1. the BIGGEST QUESTION: will the I-129F be denied because we have not met in person? i've read about waivers or explaining the hardship for why we didn't meeting. we can prove that we've been in a relationship for the last 4 years because we have our IM conversations, emails, phone bills with calls or text messages received/sent. i was scared to travel there because of safety reasons. i read about all the travel warnings issued by the state department. i also read about a couple of different bombings there. since reading about the k-1, i've finally mustered up the courage to go see him but we had a few set backs so we probably won't meet up until october. is there any way that i can forward pictures of us together in algeria after i've submitted the I-129F, to further support the petition? i don't want to waste our time and hopes by submitting now if we're just going to get denied.

2. has anyone had their k-1 approved without having met in person and for non-religious/cultural reasons?

we would appreciate any and all help on this. we've waited long enough and really just want to get started on this ASAP.

Thanks!!

You should get a flat denial without an in person meeting. You might find interesting information etc. by an in person meeting.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

In skype under options if you have it set to save conversations then all your conversations are there. You will have to copy and paste into a word program to print but it can be done. Other messenger apps are easier to print. Jim.

even if a miracle was to happen and uscis approves your application, i highly doubt it'll go through at the interview stage with the CO

& as much as we all like to deny it, after an event almost 10 years ago the powers in the USA has greatly shifted to DHS, and having not met your fiance (especially from a nation that is 99% muslim) would just raise a very very big red flag to DHS no matter how much you look at it...I'm not saying anything, but just from observation of the past decade and the creation of DHS and how much power it has, just go meet your fiance instead of putting any hurdles into your process

As others have said, you must have met in person within two years of filing the fiance visa petition. I would suggest that you go, meet your fiance in person, make sure to take pictures of the two of you together (to send in a few with your petition packet) and save your boarding passes (to make copies and also send with your petition packet). Also, you should consult with other people who have filed for K-1 visas for Algerian beneficiaries because if Algeria is a high fraud consulate (which I do not know whether it is or not) one visit might not be enough proof of relationship to grant your fiance his visa. At certain high fraud consulates (such as the one we went through) proving a bona fide relationship through multiple visits is essential to obtain the visa.

Best wishes! (F)

What are you waiting for hun?! Go see that man! lol. I dont advise filing for k1 until you meet. A bombing or any random act of terrorsim can happen anywhere. Dont let that stop you from seeing someone you really care about...especially after four years...best wishes! and Good luck!

You will be denied if you do not meet in person. You have not mentioned any reasons which would even be considered for a waiver of this condition.

The really bad news is you would probably not be denied outright. They would accept your petition for procersssing and you would wait 5-6 months, then you would get an RFE for evidence that you have met in person BEFORE you filed the petition. You would not be able to answer the RFE and 2-3 months later you would be denied, wasting nearly a year.

Go to Algeria or some other country where you can meet in person (it does not have to be in Algeria)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello,

I have been to Algeria twice. The latest one was for 4 weeks in June-July 2011. I had NO problems. We went to the embassy, NO problems. I traveled to various parts with NO problems.

Embassy bombings did not happen this year or last year in Algeria. The state has issued travel warnings for a reason. Me, I choose not to follow what the State website says. Reason? A lot of photographers/journalists take risks and make documentaries of countries undergoing siege, war, etc. I felt well protected when I was with my fiance's family.

K-1 folks at the USCIS will be REALLY looking at to see if you actually met him. LOTS of red-flags will be raised. Etc etc... It is BETTER to meet in person and get a good feel of how you both mesh in each other's lives. Because once you bring him home to USA, you're DEEPLY financially responsible for this person for the next 10 years. EITHER way, these 10 years can feel like prison OR feel like bliss.

Go visit him, see for yourself, live a little, have fun a little, it's LIFE! :-) Emily

I flew into Tunis (Carthage Airport) in May and stayed for one week with my fiance in Tunisia and then we went to Algeria to stay for 2 weeks with his family. I never felt afraid. I always felt so welcomed and every time we crossed the border from Algeria to Tunisia or vice versa, both Algerians and Tunisians told me "Welcome" or "tell your american fiance we welcome her to Algeria/Tunisia". They never gave us any problems and even went out of their way to make our crossing at the border as easy as possible. I was in the area of Tunis and Hammamet in Tunisia and then driving from Hammamet to the Annaba/El Tarf area in Algeria. The people either ignored me or stared but always had a smile (especially the women and children), I never really met the gaze of any man directly...so as not to show a lack of respect to my fiance. I never felt anything but safe. We walked late at night in Hammamet and we went to several different areas in Algeria and we had a wonderful time everywhere we went. I am blonde and the only thing I can tell you is that I made sure that I didn't make direct eye contact with guys on the streets while walking with my fiance (or any other time). If we passed by an area where there were men or boys standing, I always looked down or straight ahead. The opinion of American women is that we are flirts but when they see that you are not that way, there is so much admiration and respect shown to you. Of course, anyone who is engaged to an Algerian man and has a tendency to flirt is better off with someone else...Algerian men are very proud and expect their girl to be a lady who is completely respectable in every way and whose behavior shows it. Please don't think twice about going to ALgeria, its a beautiful, amazing place...I'm planning my second visit to beautiful Algeria and Tunisia soon and I can't wait to go back!! :) Good luck!!! PS my co-workers and even some family members tried to convince me not to go....I am so thankful that I followed my heart and went anyway...

yes it will be denied. But not until several months after you file it. Then you will have to start over. Trying to appeal it or get a waiver will be far more difficult, cost far more and take far longer than simply going to Algeria.

Go to visit and then file.

Please be advised about the Affidavit of Support. It is a binding contract that can and will be used against you in court ( in the unfortunate event of a divorce)leaving you with having to support that person for up to 10 years no matter how short the marriage. Be advised and informed and good luck. It's not just to see how much you make. :bonk:
