Generally, the photos required are US passport sized: 2" by 2". Some photo booths will be able to give this option and also a portrait photographer should be able to print you photos of the required size.

A wedding date is decidedly unhelpful if you end up not getting your visa in time and having to cancel the wedding and pay for xyz. In the UK the only difference I can see a wedding date make is that sometimes, you may get an interview sooner if your wedding date is sooner. But that's more a case of, if you get to the interview stage and your wedding is soon they might give you an interview a week sooner than they would've, whereas if your wedding is several months in the future they might give you an interview later than they would have generally...

Are you the beneficiary from UK? You would get your passport pics done as per UK. NO you don;t have to set a wedding date as you're right you don't know when your 129f will be approved. Could you fill in a time line so we know where you are up to?

From the USCIS instructions: "The photos must have a white background, be glossy, un-retouched and not mounted. The dimension of the full frontal facial image of you and your fiance(e) in separate photos should be about one inch from your chin to the top of your hair."

From our travel site: 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size, Sized such that the head is between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (between 25 and 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head

Hope that helps.

As for your wedding date, perhaps you can give a time you'd like. Or a month. Like a rough guess. Some people put that in. I just put we'd like a summer wedding in my letter of intent.

Follow the US requirements for the passport pics when submitting them to USCIS. Use the UK guidelines when submitting pics to the UK Home Office.

Here's my long-time experience with London:

When you get a few months down the road and the petition is approved and heading to the embassy, you (UK beneficiary) will be preparing your applications and documents for the embassy in London. So let's say today was the day you are ready to notify London that you've got everything needed for the interview. That's done by mailing in Form DS-2001. London's website says to include a cover letter with wedding date if you have set one. If you say April 2012, then they figure you aren't in a huge hurry because you've got 7 months. They might try to accommodate Sept and Oct weddings first with the interview slots. You would wait and wait for your interview letter while your VJ buddies who got to that stage at the same time were getting assigned interviews for Sept 1. You would be wondering what you did wrong on your forms, when London was really holding off on your interview because you didn't need your visa as quickly as those other people. Does that make sense? If you just can't bear to wait on an interview, then make up a date that's not 7 months out. Nobody is going to verify if you actually get married that day.
